Hipshot Ultralites - US v. Licensed

Hi there

Does anyone have any experience of the licensed Hipshot Ultralites? I know the US-made ones are terrific, but what of the Korean licensed ones?

The licensed ones on Korean Laklands are excellent. I also have a US set and can't see much difference except for the logo. In fact I prefer the licensed ones as they have a tapered shaft (although this may be specific to Lakland)

So are the licensed ones still using imperial hex heads for the tension adjustment/reversal screw holding it all together?

Crikey, haven't a clue! I would expect metric. Just off out but will check my JO4 and post tomorrow unless someone (else does first)

The Korean license adjustment screw takes a 2mm hex wench, the US version takes a 1/16".

There are budget and premium versions of everything these days!

I would be interested in exactly what would make the US ones worth going for over the, assumed, cheaper Korean?

Just had an email back from a guy who stocks both. He said the Licensed tuners are great and there's no real need to pay the extra for the US, so he's just talked himself out of some extra wedge from me!
