hamfist
As per title. For std solid state PA-type power amp, will having one 8 ohm load on one side and one 4 ohm load on the other side stress the power amp at all ? I am well aware that the 8 ohm side would be getting reduced power compared to the 4 ohm side, and this is not an issue. I don't want to be stressing the power amp though. Is each side of the stereo power amp completely separate ?
Dad3353
They're separate, as far as speaker loading is concerned. As long as the amp is happy with a 4 Ohm load, there's no 'extra stress' problem. You're right,of course, that the maximum power out of each will be different. icastle
Just make sure you don't try running the amp in bridge mode if it has one or you'll be putting a 2.6Ω load on the amp which it may not appreciate.

Delberthot
I ran my Hartke LH1000 like that sometimes with a 4ohm ampeg cab and an 8 ohm Laney one using separate channels
