Salica gel always found in new instrument cases. I would say , depending on how long they've been up there, put them in heavy padded gig bags if you have any - with the Salica gel for a few days.

Okay, okay. I didn't read it properly. It's just that as soon as I see the words guitar and attic I'm reminded of a mate's Fender Strat which he put up in his loft when he gave up playing for about ten years and when he retrieved it one day it was, well, not very healthy and I found it difficult holding back the tears...

I'm back on the right tablets now.

Ha ha! No worries mate :-)

I think I may have been lucky: I moved everything downstairs, and this morning they seemed OK. I'll keep an eye on them as the rest of the house dries out and warms up. Thanks folks!

We put off getting a dehumidifier for quite a while, bought one a couple of months back and it was money well spent for sure.

Silica gel isn't even going to make a dent on the moisture left by plastering.

The basses will be fine, I would just leave them in another room of the house to dry out naturally.
