Hello, oldish bloke from Gloucestershire here. Started the slow road into learning my first instrument in August last year. Really enjoying learning and playing the Bass. I've got a cheap Westfield P Bass from the local paper and amp which is fine. I have read quite a bit on here so thanks to all in regard to affordable Bass's which will be my next step. I would like to try some slim neck models as my hands are not that big so will be looking at a few ibanez/Yamaha I think. Any suggestions on where to go to try a few models out. I have been locally but the range of Bass is not vast.. Thanks in advance
M

Hello
Do you live close to Gloucester? There only seems to be 2 shops in Gloucester, and neither stock much in the way of basses. If you want a day out in Birmingham, Guitar Guitar could be worth going to have a look. http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/ . PMT in Oxford or Bristol have basses. http://www.pmtonline...ss-guitars/?p=3 Never been so no idea what basses they will have instore..Bass guitar shops are a little thin on the ground around here. I would add that if you don`t mind a drive Bass Direct are in Warwickshire. I bought my bass from there. They are probably our nearest bass shop. A massive range in there, but can be a bit bewidering in there. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Home.html

Just as way of an update and thanks to all. I had a look at the Squier modified Jazz that Moos3h had for sale but whilst I had a think it unfortunatley sold (thanks though Moos3h for your help). Anyway that prompted me to go to the local music shop in Glos who didn't have a Jazz bass but they had a Squier Jaguar bass. Although i didn't like the shape or colour i found the neck to be really good. So ive ditched the idea of Ibanez / Yamaha in favour for a traditional Jazz Bass. After all this (Jazz / soul / funk) is the music i'm more drawn towards.
I will pop an add in the wanted section here just in case anyone has one surpless to requirments.
Cheers chaps and thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi and welcome, I live in the beautiful Forest of Dean, in Gloucestershire. If you go to Bristol make sure you go to Electric Ladyland and prepare to have your gob smacked by floor to ceiling gear. Cheers Paul.

Hi, I recently got my 1st bass, a Squier VM 70s Jazz (very slim neck) from PMT in Brum. Guess it's a bit far for you, but they have a big selection on display and the guy who served me was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Hello and welcome!!

I sold a Yamaha BB604 a few months back - that was a really nice sounding, slim necked active bass. I would have kept it but didn't have the space. Went for £120 in the end and well worth the money.

Cheers
