Imagine that in Mapleglo... Quote
allighatt0r Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015
On the bass front, the updated 4003S version comes with a dual trussrod system designed to produce the solid bass tones, ringing sustain and treble punch Rickenbacker are known for. All instruments come with mono output, as well as standard Model 4003 single coil pickups, keywinds and pickguards. 4003S Curves of maple form the body with a traditional Rosewood fingerboard. Dot inlays and no binding make this stand out from the standard 4003
Erm... so the selling point is no binding, no stereo output and dot inlays then? Quote
40hz Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Am I seeing things? £3700?! Edit - they are gorgeous though Edited January 22, 2015 by 40hz Quote
BigRedX Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015
Edit - they are gorgeous though
Really? The triangular inlays and chequer binding are two of the things that make Rickenbacker basses stand out visually for me. Without them, they are a bit bland really. Quote
I have to say, I too like the neck binding and triangular inlays on Ricks.... Although the distinctive shape definitely doesn't look bland, it does somehow not look quite as good as a Rick with binding and usual inlays.... £3,700 - sheesh! Can't see many players forking that amount out Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 I think the £3700 is for the 12 string guitar. The basses seem to be listed at £1950, which will probably end up in them costing the same as the current standard 4003. I don't think they are limited runs either, unless I'm mistaken. I love the look of the old 1999 model and it makes it much easier to pull off Chris Squire impersonations, if that's your thing. I do love the triangles and binding look too, but the original look is classy as hell. And it's a nice option to have. Quote
omikin Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I think the £3,700 refers to the 12-string guitar at the top of the article. £1,950 is the RRP for these basses by the looks of things. Quote
40hz Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Dont get me wrong I love the full fat rickies, just I'm digging the pared back look too. Edit - my bad on the price, really should look a bit closer Edited January 22, 2015 by 40hz Quote
Norris Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015
NAMM 2015: Rickenbacker launch new guitar and bass models
Translation: Rickenbacker push the same car out of the garage having given it a wash & emptied the ashtrays Quote
miles'tone Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Nice. A 4003 that won't slash your wrists with that horribly sharp binding. I like the dots better too. Quote
NancyJohnson Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I'm fairly new to this Rickenbacker malarky...I lurked for an awful long time. The one model that really got me hooked was the Blackstar. I'd like to have seen that reissued. Now that's a pant-wettingly beautiful bass. Quote
uk_lefty Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) I've seen some brand new kack-handed Ricky basses with walnut bodies and maple fretboards... They look amazing, I would love a Ricky, but I'd be so scared of damaging a £2,000 instrument I wouldn't buy one even if I could Edited January 23, 2015 by uk_lefty Quote

cybertect Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Rickenbacker have a vintage web site design too. They're still using tables for layout. http://www.rickenbacker.com/factory_woodshop.asp Quote

Kev Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 They are on preorder everywhere at £1499 if you check online, good price point! Rounded edges = complete win for me, I could be checking one out Quote

Norris Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I'm all for rounded corners (it's an instrument of torture played on your knee!) but I like the sharkfins - they are as "Ric" as the headstock, but don't tell John! Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I think the black dots look better against maple on the walnut version than the white triangle inlays did. Five string versions would be nice though! Although I couldn't afford one if they did, so my opinion may not be terribly relevant... Quote
