tauzero Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 No problems playing (up to a 7-string), I do move my watch though - I'm awkward and wear it on the inside of my right wrist rather than the outside of my left. Quote
Low End Bee Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I've lost a bit of weight and the ring is now too big to wear anyway. A bit of a relief as it did get in the way now and then because of my slightly agricultural technique. Quote
mingsta Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 It depends on how big the ring is!!! I'm old skool, so went for a relatively modest 4mm band when I got married. A lot of guys seem to favour much chunkier wedding rings nowadays. It felt weird at first, and I actually took it off on my wedding day when I played (did a short 12 song set with the wedding band at the start of the night). But I got used to it after a while and now I don't even notice now. I also find that wearing your wedding ring while playing helps to ward off the groupies when we play down the local Puke and Bucket. Quote
dadofsix Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Not to worry about the "signals" you are leaving when you play with it off. That little white stripe that doesn't get tanned when you wear the ring will certainly be seen by the girlies. I swear, they've got radar when it comes to that!!! Not that I'm admitting to anything now . . . lol Quote
Krysbass Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) I've got into the habit of always removing my wedding ring and wristwatch when playing my bass - more comfortable and avoids any chance of metal/metal or worse still; metal/wood contact. But I put both back on again at gigs when I'm not actually playing Edited January 25, 2015 by Krysbass Quote
Clarky Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I switched it to my right hand (bear in mind I am playing double bass and rings can clatter on the board) about a year ago and haven't moved it back. SWMBO hasn't noticed in all that time Quote
Tom Brookes Music Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Nope it took me about a week to get used to it (I'd been playing for 14 years prior to getting wed), but it's fine....as said previously, you'd have to have a pretty odd technique for it to be a real issue. ....and congratulations too, getting wed is bloody brilliant! 0175westwood29 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 been married since may and havent noticed my ring getting in the way at all! and mine is quite a large ring about 6mm wide andy Quote
subrob Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 My head is also on this particular block in August. I've already concluded, with help of a titanium ring, that I can't play with a ring anywhere on my left hand. Quote
Bassistclem Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I would sometimes catch the neck when wearing my ring so now I don't wear it when playing, get a bit of grief from my wife though! Quote
vsmith1 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I have no problems with a wedding ring. But I dislike wearing a watch when playing. Every time I see a picture of Glenn Hughes I wonder - especially with the bangles around the wrist. No wonder his basses looked very heavily worn. Quote
discreet Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015
I take my wedding ring off at our gigs. But for other reasons
Quote
matski Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 When I first got married I did find it problem - so I swapped my wedding ring to my right hand instead. Quote
Marvin Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Never found wearing a wedding ring a problem. Quote
Deep Thought Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Mine does foul the edge of the fretboard occasionally, it's also left a bit of slight discolouration along the edge, nothing too noticeable. If I think about it I take it off before I play, but I often forget. I always wear my watch though, although I turn it around to face inwards so I can read it whilst I'm playing-somebody needs to know how much longer we have to go! Quote
