police squad
How are they tuned. Are the bottom 4 strings the same as a normal bass guitar? Stupid question really but I'd like a definitive answer please.
skej21
The D'Addario website suggests the same tuning as a guitar (EADGBE) but I assume tuned to the octave between guitar and bass tuning due to the string tensions (an octave above standard bass tuning/an octave below standard guitar tuning - as guitar and bass are usually tuned two octaves apart). http://www.daddario.com/DADMobileProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3757&productid=427 Edited January 23, 2015 by skej21
police squad
does an octave below mean the same as a bass though?
MoonBassAlpha
The tension measurements would suggest the bottom two strings could do with being a bit beefier, and I found that when I tried out the Japanese model with whatever comes standard. theyellowcar
Correct. I own a Bass VI and EADG are tuned at the same octave as a regular bass, Be are tuned at the octave below the equivalent strings on an electric guitar. If you're picking one up you should get a set of the La Bella Bass VI strings on order straight away (cost me about £15 all in delivered from the States) they are so much better than the crappy stock strings Fender supply. skej21
does an octave below mean the same as a bass though?
Yeah. So it basically straddles the octave of a bass in the bottom 4 strings and the octave above for the B & E (which is the octave below a guitars normal tuning). Edit: already beaten to it! Edited January 23, 2015 by skej21
