Dad3353
Good evening, all... Here is my own, personal, view of the compositions presented in the monthly BC Composition Challenge, in randomly chosen order. I hope that at least some will be inspired to give the works a listen, and perhaps vote for their favourite. All the pieces can be heard here... BC January Composition Challenge voting... ... and the 'Play of the Day' here ... ‘Space Rabbits’, from alittlebitrobot... Echoing opening notes give way immediately to a double melody, repeated, then joined by another, third, plucked melody layer. With subtility, a soft pattering becomes a percussive element, adding pace, rhythm and gaiety. The plucked melody gives way to a more synthetic horn riff, in a wider stereo space. The timbre shifts, becomes more central, but leaves its centre stage, allowing the initial tones and patter to fade away in echoes in their turn. A short piece, which the author disparagingly comments upon as "A mess", and for which I'll have to disagree. A charming romp though a field of rabbits is the principal image I caught, obviously helped by the picture for this month's Challenge. Completely appropriate, nicely produced; maybe a tad short; it could easily have supported further development. The intertwined melodies lend themselves to repeated listening without tiring. There is no 'bass line' as such, but none is lacking, either. Altogether an enjoyable listen. The next will feature ‘Rag, Tag And Judy’, from Dad3353... Until then... Have a nice day Douglas
