franzbassist Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Hello all I have used Innovation Silver Slaps on my BSX since I bought it some five years ago. I like them a lot, but I fancy trying something else and was wondering what's out there in terms of low tension strings? I also fancy something a little thicker, gauge-wise, on the D and G strings. The BSX has a piezo that allows for adjustments to the volume of each string, so I could even mix and matchbrands if I wanted. The bass is a 5 string too, and I am tempted to go EADGC rather than the current BEADG, so a nice low tension C suggestion would be good! Cheers Gareth Quote
zero9 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) You'll be looking at something like weedwackers or Superior Basswork deluxe. The latter may work for the high C as there are 6 strings in the set. These are fairly inexpensive. Edited January 25, 2015 by zero9 Quote
Clarky Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 There are very few strings as low tension as Silver Slaps and with thicker gauge D/G - pretty much other top end whacker types (Cordes lamberts, Gut-a-likes, other Innovations) or real guts (which cost a lot more). Steels will all be narrower gauge. Velvet Garbo's (silk strings, wound in copper) will work but I don't know if they do a high C and they are v pricey too. Maybe as a compromise some hybrids (eg Evah Pirazzi Weich, Zyex light) which won't be fatter gauge but won't be as different as say Spirocores and which have an earthy more gut-like sound than regular steels? bassfunk Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I just had a set of presto jazzicato tungsten strings fitted. Very low tension and easy on the fingers. But they're a pretty low gauge. The original jazzicato may be thicker and I'd recommend them as an alternative to the Innovations. Quote
franzbassist Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks guys, I may just stick with the current setup but change to Psycho Slap D and Gs. Quote
symcbass Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Careful with the Psycho slaps, I found them higher tension than the silver slaps and twangier Quote

Clarky Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Maybe just drop a PM to Daf Lewis who I am sure will have the answer? Quote
