logicred Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I have an old Fender Squire bass which is chipped and a horrible colour. Was looking at getting it sprayed in sunburst. Could someone point me in the direction of somewhere I could send the body too to get sprayed? Even a rough price would be great. I don't want to sell the bass ;-( Quote
mickster Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Sims custom have a good reputation, tho' suspect they're not the cheapest: http://www.simscustom.com/html/home.htm Should give you an idea of cost though. Quote
Truckstop Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I think you'll be looking at at least £300. May as well buy a new bass! Truckstop Quote

HowieBass Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I suspect what makes it expensive to go down this route is removing the old finish before it's ready for a fresh translucent finish. It'd be cheaper to find someone selling a suitable body. Quote
Owen Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Strip it yourself http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Finishing/How_to_strip_a_modern_poly_guitar_finish.html and send it to https://www.facebook.com/Retro169?fref=ts. Quote
BigRedX Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Bear in mind that if you bass was originally finished in a solid colour, the wood (and how the pieces that make up the body are joined) might not be attractive enough to stand being visible through a sunburst finish. Quote

As for refinishing, should you go that route, I can't speak highly enough of David Wilson: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002025970885&fref=ts Contact him, great guy, superb job, and not as expensive as some of the others although you would never know looking at the results!
Dave Wilson is a true expert when it comes to re-finishing, if the body wood isn't nice enough then you could consider a thin veneer over the top and bottom, the burst at the edges would cover the join, this would add to the cost though, a home refinish in a solid colour would be much cheaper. if you really want sunburst then the suggestions of buying another bass are a great option.
