After seeing thread about Vigier, I bethinked to create a thread about oftenly underrated, "intended-only-for-metal", "not-Fenderous" and stuffy like that, basses, so that'd be Ibbies!

Once again then, we gotta remember, this brand is one of the best in "price-quality", versality and other questions, range, right?

Not long ago I've bought my second Ibanez, that'd be GSR205. Oh, the first was SR1005 Prestige. After a 'while' it looks, like I'm falling in deeper and depper love with Ibbies.

I've seen a dozen of Ibby owners, ex-owners, supporters here and there in Basschat, so, spread the word about Ibbies, and show some Ibby porn, mates!

Cheers,
Faith.

I play an EDB700 - and for the price it's brilliant, super low action and sounds great (well sounded great until the pre amp blew up, now it's passive and just sounds good :) ) - and I think it looks great too.

Still love it though, and its shortly to be fitted with a John East pre, which should make it even better than it was before

I've got an Ibanez BTB406QM which I absolutely love, one of my non metal loving mates saw it and said that it looked like the instrument the devil would play, sounds exactly like something I'd want to play!

i've gone on and on about my SR500 so i wont go on too much here, suffice to say its the dogs danglies. pretty much every tone i could need for my current band. though i am liking the ATK's and SRX's at the moment, fortunately i dont have the cash :)

Likewise, I've probably mentioned my SR20th way to many times. My perfect bass right now - a little over-priced, but worth it for the sounds and playability.

I never associated Ibanez basses with quality, in my formative (and clearly naive) years of bass playing, but then again I hadn't been turned on to their Japanese-made high-end range.

Faithless - you really are the Ibanez champion on this forum. We can always rely on you to start some pro-Ibanez rallying :)

Barry44 - does your K5 have a Wenge/Bubinga neck? That's what the new K5 model is missing...

I'll confess that I'm not crazy about the shape (SRX series) or colour (tango'd) but my Ibanez DWB-3 is my ideal four-string. I'm not great at describing bass tones but to me it feels responsive, dynamic, articulate and defined. I love the tight, controlled sound ........ although it can roar if you crank the bass or hit the boost circuit.

If I could find a five-string I loved as much I'd be sorted for life. My G&L Tribby is versatile but just sounds messier and punkier - not a bad thing but not always what I'm looking for!

BTW - As a guy with short, stubby fingers - Ibanez Soundgear necks are the mutt's nuts. :)

That SR20th fiver looks like the only non-Spector/non-Wimbish five string that I might fall in love with. Can I have it please? I'll give you a fiver. Like, an actual crisp green fiver.

No? Ok. :)

Ha ha! I get to post on this one as well as the Vigier one!

SRX700. Plays like a dream. Little bit rough and ready sonically, but that's what they had in mind. Think G&L L2000 or ASAT, and you're not far off.

i really like this bass, i just need to sort out it's sound.....

and i fully agree with the post above re the SRX700, that is pretty much my dream bass, had a gig on saturday and it never lets me down....

I've got a veritable History Of Ibanez!

2366B Precision copy (pre-1975)

RS924 Roadster (1983)

Soundgear SR800FL Fretless (1989) currently for sale here and here.

Soundgear SR800LE (1990)

Ergodyne EDA-900 (2002)

And why stop there? I'm GASing after a 70s Rick copy - 2388B/DX through-neck, early version with full width inlays & mudbuckers, an ATK (still grieving after the £99 BIN one I saw when I was brassic, gave a heads-up here & some lucky, lucky BCer snagged it) - and I really, really like the look of the Jetking... :)

I've also got a thing called a Cimar XR2065, from about 1980 - Cimar was at the time marketed as a "by Ibanez" sub-brand, my bass is like a hybrid of an early Blazer & a Precision, with an extra J pickup stuck in for good measure...

Jon.

I've got a a smidgeon of GAS for this SRX355, especially since it's £249, anyone got one ?

But THIS I would hit, alas it's double the price.. probably got same pickups/EQ anyway.

Ah, you're making me "shamy"...

And, sorry, for not showing any porn - figured out, that my photo-camera is taken to countryside for a while...

And, don't let the thread go dead, keep showing the porn and spreading the word, fellow Ibbyphiles!

I have access to an EDB550 (its the wife's) which has a nice tonal range a fast (narrow) neck. My only gripe is the scallop in the body which (I think) is supposed to make it easier to slap isn't really needed, by me anyway, cos my finger goes in too far and I get too much off the string. I suppose if I played it all the time I would adapt. I have used it at a few gigs and people have commented on how good it sounded.

I have a late 80s SR1000. It weighs nothing. We had fun times together in the early 90s. It had a hilarious 80s active circuit in. It was metallic pink. Since then I have done terrible things to it and it lives in a box.

The only Ibby you'd catch me with in public these days is the one attached.

figured putting up another image of mine can't hurt, though i really need to take a decent photo as my phone is a bit rubbish, deserves better
there really is some nice wood markings on this for a stock bass that the picture doesnt show. and the wenge/bubinga neck looks the mutts.

It's all about Bubinga-Wenge. I guess the use of those woods in SR necks was influenced by Warwick, not a bad thing. Though unfortunately, I've heard that the trees from which Wenge comes are endangered, so I wouldn't be surprised if more companies start following Warwick's lead and stop using so much Wenge in their basses.

On another note, I don't suppose anyone out there has an SR5005? Those really were the absolute nuts. The creme-de-la-creme of the Ibanez SR range.

Just googled .............. wow. Me want.

Likewise. Though I think they were only released in Japan and the US - pretty rare these days. There are some great close up photos of one on the Ibanez Register website. Along with some shots of the SR3006E, which is right up there as well.

I have the SR1000 which I bought way back in 1990 & at the time was looking at a Status bass, but after having a shot on the Ibby, that was me.

Now has more chips than Mac D's, but sounds amazing & compared to a lot of quality basses that I have played, I wouldn't part with it.

Will get a pic up later.

Completely forgot about this one... the SR7005MH-OL.

Very similar to the SR5005, but possibly a custom model? I would commit horrific acts to get my hands on one of these. More photos here...
