civilian_project
im looking for a set of jazz pickups. ideally i want a nice vintage sounding 60's set. whats peoples general consensus on the best sets available?
Conan
There are loads of threads on this very subject. It might be worth doing a quick search? You will get lots of suggestions, ranging from GFS, Wilkinson and Entwistle at the budget end of the scale; through Fender, EMG and Seymour Duncan in the middle and on to the boutique hand-winders.... None of it will be particularly helpful as only your ears will be able to tell you whether you like their tone in your bass or not... What kind of bass do you have and what pickups are currently in it?
civilian_project
It's a Frankenstein jazz, ash body, flame maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. Fender noiseless pickups with a mayones preamp. But I'm wanting to go back passive. I had a 64 custom shop relic so was thinking of the CS 60's ones? Wizard/hortrod 60's possibly? So many to look at
Conan
Any of those you suggest would work. Several people on here are very complimentary about Entwistle pickups at the moment, which have the added bonus of being very inexpensive. Could you simply remove the preamp and use the noiseless Fenders in passive mode? I'm not familiar with those pickups so pardon me if that is a silly question! Tuco
Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's would fit the bill.
LayDownThaFunk
Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's would fit the bill.
+1. Possibly Nordstrand's too.
lemmywinks
Had a set of Seymour Duncan SJB-1 in my bitsa and they nailed the old school tone for a decent price. Nice rounded tone that sat in the mix really well.
paulo m
Nordstrand NJ4s..are some of the very best also Jason Lollar are top notch' both are not cheap but you get what you pay for!!
FinnDave
Would anyone know if there is much difference between the SJB-1 and the standard pick up in the MiM classic 60s Jazz?
Bronner
Here's an idea. Everyone that owns a bass with Jazz style pickups should put an audio clip (nothing fancy) recorded direct without effects. It would be really nice to [s]see[/s] hear something like that.
Dan Dare
A plug for Kent Armstrong. Nice and not too pricey.
