Dad3353
[sharedmedia=core:attachments:181945] Good evening, all... Here is my own, personal, view of the compositions presented in the monthly BC Composition Challenge, in randomly chosen order. I hope that at least some will be inspired to give the works a listen, and perhaps vote for their favourite. All the pieces can be heard here... BC January Composition Challenge voting... ... and the 'Play of the Day' here ... ‘Rave Bunny’, from Stephen Houghton... We start off with a whooshing, 'Doctor Who' effect with a pulse, which rapidly takes up a 'disco' beat, then a synth lead. A disto guitar starts up a riff, but is replaced by a subdued muted synth. Breathy vocals lend a touch of humanity, and the guitar is back. The whooshing continues, and the beat goes on. An insistant, hypnotic bass. The synth lead sketches out a melody; there's a lull for breath; the drums fall silent, the pulse is maintained by the bass. That's enough; the machine starts up again with the beat and lead synths, taking us up to the ending. The melodies die away, leaving only the drumbeat and the whooshing to fade away... Aptly titled (well, as far as 'rave' is concerned...), we are led onto an '90s dance floor. A suitable intake of perception-enhancing products may provoke a different enjoyment, or may entail falling onto the glass-topped coffee table and breaking it into small fragments scattered over the lounge carpet. Jean-Michel Jarre is brought to mind; for some, this may be a compliment; personally I'm not well versed in this genre. Very well sewn together, well executed, well produced, I'm left with a disquietening sense of emptiness. Not enough chemical intake, maybe..? The previous review was... Play of the Day : ‘Disturbing The Peace’, from Leonard Smalls... The next will feature ‘No Happy Bunny’, from alibabu... Until then... Have a nice day Douglas
