With my current band, I use either my Squier P or Mustang JMJ. The sound works perfectly and the look fits. This means that my Elwood doesn’t get played that much at the moment. However, today, I was just running through the set list for a gig on Friday, to blow away cobwebs and reacquaint myself with the 3 sets (it’s been a while) and, as it’s just me at home, I thought I’d use the Elwood for a change. What a sound, fits right in without any flabbiness. Then I remember that the Delanos, although looking like single coils, are in fact mini split coils. I’d completely forgotten that and I effectively have a very lightweight J shaped, double P. 
 

I might take it along on Friday, despite the flame maple top. Outside of the band, I’m not sure anyone else would notice that it’s not on point visually.

I'm currently using a 1993 Musicman SR5  for all my gigs because I love the punchy Stingray sound.

However the weigh at 4.75kg is starting to take its toll.

I did own 2 Maruszczyk basses over 10 years ago and wasn't very impressed by their standard hardware. The bridge and tuners were made of cheese. The grub screws just fell apart.

On visiting the Maruszczyk pages I started to configure a light weigh 32" scale chambered body Jake with light weight branded hardware.

 

What do you think?

I’d go with gold. Both look great but the gold just has an edge I like.

I’m sure either would make a fantastic bass but not in those colours IMO.

 

I dread to think what the price is for those specs! I have speced up a light weight 32” several times and it is easy to end up with a pretty expensive bass!

 

WRT hardware, the tuners on my Elwood seem OK but I hated the stock bridge. It seemed pretty solid but the intonation adjustment was a right pain. After much searching for a drop in replacement, I found a Gotoh with proper intonation adjustment screws. Perhaps things have come on a bit since you last bought from them.

They have come on in that you can specify what bridge you want.

One thing I never saw an option for was "Screws Cheese / Metal", that would be good.

I'm considering ordering a Jake L from Adrian. I'm looking to go as light weight as possible and so am willing to pay extra for chambering and lightweight hardware. I was wondering how light I could expect the bass to be. Also, if there are any real world examples of the metallic purple that Maruszczyk uses, I'd love to see them as I can't find much besides one old reverb listing and know the configurator and real world don't always match up.

My chambered Jake’s were / are around 7.2lbs…

 

They balance perfectly, but I did spec Hipshot Ultralites.

I used to have a Jake L4p+ (passive with P/H pickup config) that just had the default bridge and tuners as far as I could tell, and it weighed 3.31kg. No idea what the body wood was, unfortunately. At the same time, I also had a Sandberg SuperLight TM (active with J/H pickup config) that was designed to be as the name suggests, and was 3.02kg. If you spec all lightweight hardware, then perhaps between 3 and 3.3kg would be a reasonable expectation depending on the specific pieces of wood used.

Nearly ten years on, it still makes me chuckle that the OP pitched this 'club' thread nonsense and disappeared a month later.  I'm still uncertain whether the guy was just moist about a purchase, if he was actually a dealer from Turkey or in the employ of Adrian Maruszczyk.

Indeed - the first non him post was from you saying not to do it. I am sure he was a spammer, but on the other hand, I have a Maruszcyk and it is probably my most used bass, so hard to get too annoyed about.

I have a VM4 Superlight in order from Sandberg, but also wanted something more vintage looking and sounding while in the same range for weight. Sounds like a smartly built Jake will fit the bill.

I think my 33" Elwood L fretless is a whisker over 7lbs and my fretted one not much more. Both have ultra-light tuners, but also drop D tuners. Both are alder bodied and maple topped, with a clear, satin finish. If they were all alder, they would weigh a bit less. I had a Jake L a few years back, seemed to weigh about the same as those 2 (perhaps a fraction more), but it was 34" and had normal tuners.

Dealer talking - I've had countless Jake in stock. 

 

Standard hardware + Chambered = 3,3 to 3,5 kilos 

USA hardware Ultralite bla bla + Chambered = 3 to 3,3 

 

keep in mind this is not a science and the weight factor is VERY complicated to establish so those are rough estimates

don't choose ash body - northern ash is heavier than most , Swamp ash is hugely inconstant weight wise 

 

just had a short scale 4 Ash chambered with USA hardware that came to 3,8 (which is fine for me)

Mine is a swamp ash with ultralights. It weighs very little (not spector RST little, but still, no real weight)

It should be noted that the pickup position on the SS Jake is proportionally more towards the neck than in the normal P position. IIRC it’s more in the standard, Mustang position.
