I was worried as the OP stated the bass had fretbuzz even on open strings which was suggestive of a setup issue beyond low action. For the record I also play with an extremely light touch and a low action.

Don't forget that this bass came fro BD not direct from Adrian though - I've turned the truss rod 1/4 turn, and that has enabled the saddles to be lowered so the action is still very low, and the open string buzzing has gone! I'm now experimenting a bit with the series/single/parallel switches - has these on my Wick $$. Will plug it into my rig tomorrow evening - can't wait!

Thanks for all the comments and feedback from other Maruszczyk owners - I'm pleased to be "in the club" 👍

Nice to have you with us!

8 weeks into my build on Friday.

This wait isn't getting easier.

If you have a buzz on the first fret but not the open string, you have a problem with the nut being too high. Or in this case, with a zero fret, that fret being too high. Or maybe with the second fret being too high!

Thanks for this - first bass I've had with a zero fret, so I was wondering if the open string buzz (which is the main problem) was due to the zero fret not being substantial/high enough, but Adrian & co have done hundreds of basses with them so I very much doubt that - just my unfamiliarity with it (I rather liked the Warwick adjustable nut - sorry to mention that on this thread :gas: ).

BD have said to give the truss a 1/4 turn to increase the neck relief, which will hopefully mean I can lower the saddles again to get a nice low action (which is my preference - highly subjective of course) so I'll give that a go this evening.

Thanks for all the feedback - its really appreciated !!

David

Update on the set-up issue! I found a couple of useful videos by Adrian M - didn't tell me anything I didn't know about how to do a set-up but underlined that it is a personal thing - you'll find the videos here if you are interested:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrTNzFjXMHE (Part 1) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Dqy6SIeKAY (part 2)

Anyway, a 1/8th turn of the truss rod seemed to do nothing, then a 1/4 turn added a huge amount of relief, so I eased it back a little and left it overnight. It settled nicely with gentle relief, and I could take the saddles back down very low (Hipshot B bridge) and now have what I would consider a low action, with only the slightest buzz on the B string.

So all looking good !

Am I right in thinking that Adrian uses a reverse trussrodd or something?

[/quote]Elwoods are the same. It was a bit disconcerting when I first set my fretless up but, once you know, it's all good.

I'd love to see Adrian do a 'part 3' to those set up videos and cover fret dressing

Yes!!! It confused the hell out of me on my first Jake... I thought I suddenly knew nothing, or that the bass was broken. Then I thought 'wait a minute', and noticed it.

I thought you Brits were the experts at doing things "the wrong way" ;) just because you can... but here Adrian out-britted the Brits

Hi there all,

I am back from Adrains Showroom in Aldenhoven and I've been ordered to say kind Regards from Adrian to all of you. Adrian feels very happy that his/teir Basses are so successful in the UK too. We've had a nice Afternoon. Adrian is such a kind and funny Guy. It feels like you're talking to a Friend. We've had a Coffee ant talked about this and that and of Course I've tested a few Basses. To be honest, I was tempted by the "White Rabbit" Basses wich look so awesome in Real. Absolutely stunning. There is a big Party in Adrians House on 18th of Juni, with lots of Live Music, Workshops, Barbecue and so on. So feel free to come.

Some Impressions....

Bass Heaven is here...

Two Testobjects...

...but after I played some Basses I have felt, that an Alder/Rosewood 5-String would be a good Addition to my Ash/Maple Lakland 55-02 and so I went with the blue One. I guess it is not a real LBP it is more vivid, and a bit darker I guess, but I like it, so what? Just came back from a Rehearsal and what should I say.... It is a great Bass. But I will change the Knobs as ever to some black Jazz Bass Knobs, wich are better readable.

Took the Maruszczyk out for its first gig on Sunday, having only heard it so far through the Phil Jones practice amp. The sound using my TC Electronic head and Warwick/Ashdown cabs was incredible. Huge bottom end with both PU in series mode, but settled mostly for neck PU in parallel and bridge PU in series, which gave a nice rounded tone, but with plenty of top end. Best bit was how even the sound was across the fretboard whether low E/F or high Notes on the 15/17th fret etc. The B string was tight enough although needs a bit of handling with care.

After my early issues, the action has settled down nicely (thanks for all your comments) - all in all, a very, very nice piece of kit - I'm trying not to look at Funkydarios photos above !! (No money left anyway !)

Yum.

Used mine for a Jazz set last night, sounded great despite being relegated to the J pickup as the P was far too overbearing!

Well over a year with my L5 and it still blows me away every time I pick it up... so ridiculously playable. I took my Jake to an audition yesterday that turned out to have more of a requirement for subtly than expected and spent the whole time wishing I'd taken the Elwood.

You'll have a lot of fun with that! :)

No, mine has Haussels (split humbucker in the bridge and Jazz in the neck) with a Glockenlang 2 band.

The range of tones is excellent, but it's the feel of the bass, the ergonomics, that make me love it. Even if the sound was 5hit it would still be my favourite.

Hopefully an Explorer type thing.

This isn't helping my GAS either, I always wondered if he'd do a bass version of the Valentine!
