The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Just used the P configurator, and it's a good piece of kit. But Christ the prices have rocketed up! I'm not sure how the 19% tax works but €1260 without tax for a nitro P with a hipshot B style bridge. Or with the tax it's €1461. On today's exchange rates it's £1100 without tax and £1275 with.

So a five string Jake is costing me less than my four string Jake build from a couple of years ago, I've got no idea how that works.

Can't decide whether I want the White one with Gold hardware or the Red one I came up with with a Humbucker in it.

Same price too!

Have the prices gone up as well as the difficulties with the £? A fairly simple P bass, 5 string, normal colours etc is now about £1350....

Yup... the euro/GBP exchange is not doing us any favours... although the price in euros had not change, my last Jake (JJ) cost me a noticeable amount more than my first one (PJ) two years ago.
Still... it's a pretty good price for what you get, and the ability to specify it *just* right.

These are a couple I had fun with, a modern 4 and a trad 5.....didn't make a note of the prices though:

Oh dear, I seem to have just ordered one of these:

The monorail bridge and Y tuners are mainly because I like them, but there is a little bit of me that wants them to make P bass fans twitch ;)

Worth calling out that although 95% of the spec was done through the configurator, you can ask them directly for other things as well, so this is coming with a gloss back neck and back/sides of headstock, which you can't choose through the site (and at no extra cost).

If you want to know why these (and everything from Thomann, etc etc) is more expensive now than 2 years ago, just check out the chart: http://www.xe.com/cu...&to=EUR&view=2Y - It'll probably get worse, so I'm ignoring it and buying now. :)

For me, I'm paying partly for the quality, but also for speccing out the exact bass I wanted. Bridge Humbucker + split coil + the rest... it's not going to be an easy wait!

Thanks Chris. I am clearly a technophobe!

Shame there's not a pic of rear with tasty neck thru body.
That's your job when it arrives. Time to get down with the technology, my man.

Decided to redesign the Jake Custom I had a little while ago. Changes include a Hipshot bridge, no humbucker at the bridge, no dots, ebony instead of rosewood f/b and lollipop tuners. Plus a 34" scale whereas my previous one was 33".
This is essentially the spec I have on the way from Lakland (blasphemy!!! ):

Fun!

Haha, no sorry. Just had some fun on the Configurator re-doing my old Maruszczyk (above), just for fun.....although I do miss it, was a fun bass!
No I simply meant that the Lakland I have on the way has much of the above spec :)

A bass named Bob?

Just had a typically enjoyable exchange of PMs with a forum member who's bought a nice Cazpar off the FS forum. As an aside in one of his posts, he asked: "As someone of Polish descent yourself, can you explain their love of the letter Z?" I couldn't, but my reply might make life a bit easier for anyone struggling with the pronunciation of 'Maruszczyk':

As for the Polish love of 'Z', beats me - but here's a story. My Dad's first name was Zdzislaw (roughly 'Jeeswaf'). He came over to GB in 1942 and, after the war, duly got himself a job so he could stay here and marry my Mum. So, on his first morning at work, the foreman takes him on one side at the start of tea-break to ask his first name so he can formally introduce him to all his work mates. "Zdzislaw", says my Dad. There's a short pause, and the foreman calls the group to order: "I'd like to introduce you all to your new work-mate, Bob" (the only name they didn't already have). Which is why my middle name is Robert - same as my son's.

:)
Marvellous! No point in going for an understated finish with the V body shape, that totally works.
