I became the third owner in March this year when I travelled up Evesham way to buy the bass from Andrew. I know personal to me as I own the thing, but understanding some of its history i found quite interesting! I think AREA has switched to Sire's, & that's the brand I switched away from to get the Maruszczyk's - funny how it goes. The other i thing I noticed was that despite this being a massive thread, there's not too many contributors. I reckon it's current owners trying to keep the brand under the radar, so that Adrian's builders aren't too busy when they place an order! Lol Perhaps just an exclusive club that once you've got one you 'get it' & then trust the brand. Just spent a lazy 15mins configuring a 5 string passive Jake: nothing fancy - swamp ash finished in black with a black scratchplate, birdseye maple neck/headstock/fingerboard, Aguilar pickup, hipshot tuners. In fact it will look just like a 5 string version of my much beloved JV Precision. Comes in at a whisker under £1400 with a few bits a bobs. Can anyone see a good reason not to go ahead? It is looking like a green light at the moment, although I will sleep on it whilst on hols for a week. [/quote] I didn't like their standard bridge, it's solid enough, but adjusting intonation is overly fiddly and a bit annoying. Currently dreaming up designs and the Shell Pink looks very pink, I would want it closer to the Flea sig. level of pink. Also, I assume you can have almost any wiring options you want on your bass. [/quote] I never gave it much thought, to be honest. But I also like substantial necks... I love my Classic 50 series Precision neck. The truss rod adjustment is at the heel which is a pain, but I have adjusted it exactly zero times since I bought it 3-4 years ago. Those necks don't shift much. If I went for something slimmer I'd probably go for the rods option for extra stability. It adds a bit of £££ but if you're specifying a bass *just so*, you might as well go the extra inch or two. Classic Jake 5 string, black with black pickguard, birdseye maple neck/board and headstock plus carbon rods. Delano pups, Chrome Hipshot B bridge and Ultralite tuners. Luminlay side dots.
