The bass is now with Robin Manton to fit a decent rod. This isn’t unknown on these basses, apparently. Btw I can recommend Lenspeed Logistics for shipping basses. Excellent service from people who know how to transport something fragile and expensive. Ooof! Sorry to hear that. I've seen more stories on this. In other cases I've seen it had something to do with fingerboard glue getting into the thread and effectively freezing the truss rod nut in place. Absolutely should not happen, that's a really bad flaw in their manufacturing process. 1 Quote
ezbass Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Another, clear pickguard change. I have a mod/ska/scooter gig this coming Saturday (multiple band line up) and thought this would appeal to the punters. 5 Quote
yonni Posted Friday at 09:01 Posted Friday at 09:01 Apologies if this has been answered but I have searched a couple of times and can’t find the answer: Is the price quoted the price you pay? I.e. no nasty import duty on top to get it released from HMRC? I know that Thomann charge everything upfront but not sure if Public Peace do. Anyone bought a new Maruszczyk recently? 1 Quote
simisker Posted Friday at 09:18 Posted Friday at 09:18 (edited) When I bought my custom Elwood three years ago, I ended up having to pay import duty some months afterwards. I didn't have to pay to 'release' the bass from customs or anything; it was shipped to me by PP once ready. The duty came afterwards in the shape of an invoice from DHL, if I remember rightly - 150 quid or so [I wonder if Adrian declared a lower than accurate value... 🤔] Edited Friday at 09:38 by simisker 1 Quote

I'd message Bass Direct with what you're after as they're a dealer. Do it all in the configurator, add it to the cart and then copy the spec into an email to them. Can't hurt to see what their price for that is. Otherwise, assume an additional 26% on the cost of the bass + shipping. 2 Quote

It worked out just fine, but communication wasn't the easiest. Having someone else like Bass Direct dealing with them sounds like a very good option: you ensure BD know what you want, and they do all the talking. 1 Quote

Thanks I don't think going through BD will necessarily make getting an identical bass cheaper! They still have to pay the taxes but also need to make a bit of profit themselves... unless Marusz will give them a healthy discount for a custom order? Quote

They do automatically add 19% VAT on their price listed on the configurator though, so that'd come off if buying direct before importing. 1 Quote
yonni Posted Friday at 11:37 Posted Friday at 11:37 I’ve asked BD for a quote but I’ll also contact Adrian. Thanks for the advice. 1 Quote

Russ Posted Friday at 12:37 Posted Friday at 12:37 Book a trip over to Germany to pick it up. Make an event out of it - it's probably cheaper than the import duty! They're just outside Aachen, or about an hour from Dusseldorf or Cologne, depending on where you want to fly to. Adrian or one of the other Public Peace guys will probably even pick you up from the airport if you arrange it in advance! It's a relatively feasible road trip if you wanted to do it that way too - get the ferry to Hook of Holland, and it's about a 3 hour drive via Tilburg and Eindhoven. 3 Quote

I’ve promised the kids Berlin this year. Its a bit of a trek from there. Adrian responded: “You buy without german vat + shipping about 50,-e to UK.” Uk tax would be applied by customs. This happened last year when I bought a Sushibox Slampegg Bee pedal from the states. I think it was £43 tax on a £165 pedal. That does work out to around 26% as MichaelDean said. Minus the 19% German tax it’s not too bad. I’ll see what BD say but probably going to go ahead anyway. Edited Friday at 15:18 by yonni Typo 1 Quote
yonni Posted Friday at 15:24 Posted Friday at 15:24 Just checked prices and recalculated - it comes out at £213 more. Not to bad overall. 3 Quote

I get many UK customers doing this. Very often much cheaper to fly or Eurostar over and take a crappy hotel. Quote
