The lams look good with the pup covers though, get a MK 1 with Saturn inlays, you know you want to. Are you still getting your Kingbass? Steve. marcus bell Posted August 21, 2008 Author Share Posted August 21, 2008 umm, my dad has the series 1 in cherry red with dot inlays, and i have a roadie series 2 in cherry , both lovely basses both is sound and construction, however there are sound differences, possibly due to the poistioning of the pickups??, but on the series 1 you can get a wider range of sounds ranging more mellower than the roadie and the sharper, if its the authentic early mark king sound your after you should definately go for the series 1, however if your concerned about body sizes check a few out first, including all the series instruments 1, 2, 3, and 4 hpoe this helps buddy ill get some photos of the pair up later... marcus Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a fairly generous stash of Jaydee porn on my hard drive but I'm a little reluctant to post them in case anyone claims copyright issues. The one of Pino Palladino's Jaydee is pretty luscious though. The Roadies and MK models are tonally different - yes the pickups and circuitry are the same but dont forget, the Roadie models are 98% mahogany in construction terms, including the neck! (obviously the fingerboards are normally ebony!). I found that the Roadies don't quite have the same top end as the MK or indeed GA24 models. If you were going for a bass that was more keenly priced, I'd get John to do you a custom Roadie, Series II or III body, as noted with the front pickup nearer the neck, but with a multilaminated neck with maple and walnut stringers (stronger than the mahogany neck and brighter). Anyone got a picture of a series II and III together?[/quote] John gave me the relative body widths when I ordered my GA24; Series 1 Mark King - 15 1/4 inches GA24 - 14 1/2 inches Series 2 & 3 Mark King 14 1/4 inches He also offered to scale any bass down to suit at no extra charge. The Series II models were similar in body length but narrower - the top cutaway being much smaller than the Series I model, and the front pickup was moved further away from the neck in order to accomodate the `funk groove' - cut out to enable easier pulling of the strings! The Series III was actually a scaled-down Series I but again, the pickup placement was such that there was a gap between the end of the neck and the front p/up- I do have a pic somewhere of my old MK bass, a Series II and a III together - may have to email it to one of you guys for uploadage! I always wanted either a Wal or a Jaydee MK, and have never been able to afford either. Mark King and Mick Karn were my heroes in the 80s, along with JJ Burnel.
