Single ply Matte Black would look ace!

😉

Ooh I like the look of that. I contacted WD Music but they don’t do one for the Special HH yet. I’d have to send them a template. 🙄

Both of mine (black & white) are original musicman ones, not at all cheap but a perfect fit & they're not thin either which I like.

Edited for crap spelling 🤦

Not sure if it's of any use but I have a non musicman 4H in Matte Black you could butcher if you want it.

Suppose it depends if the bridge pickup is in the same position 🤔

Yeah thanks for the offer but I believe they are different. That and the fact that if I tried to ‘adjust’ it, it truly would look like it’s been butchered - but with a fork!

Here you go, before and after shots showing the stock gloss b/w/b/plate, then the single ply matt black plate fresh from Chandler.

This is how they should have been from the factory imho. Very pleased. 😉

Just a note to add on to the pictures .

I'd sold some gear , and was then saving up a bit more (as and when) , for either a 2nd hand Stingray Special , or an Old Smoothie , that I'd seen up - and was in contact with the seller .

A Sterling wasn't particularly on my radar , but it was less than the Stingrays I was looking at , and it's got the piezo bridge ; which adds quite a bit sound wise . Added to the fact that Piezo Stingrays are quite rare , and a Sterling one , even more so . It'll be a nice contrast to my graphite necked Stingray .

So in true BC style - I couldn't help myself . Proper skint now though .

Remember those matt 3 ply guards from the 90s? I was gutted when they stopped them, so got one made for my Special  😊

Not easy to photo, but loving the contrast.

I’ve had a couple of Stingrays but this Special in Dropped Copper is a keeper. Replaced stock white scratchplate with the white pearl

Just acquired this in a straight trade for a 4 string Special.

I have very few regrets about moving basses on, but I really should’ve kept my ‘Ray5.

That’s a cracker.

Bought back my old ‘95 Ray recently, so here’s a photo with its mates, a Special & Old Smoothie.

Edit - now also pictured with the ‘95 restored to original.

Oy oy oy what's going on with the middle one!

lol! I had it done in 2005...

Active / passive - 2 way switch for MM pups

Precision  / MM split coil / MM normal -  3 way switch

MM pups -  3 way selector switch.

Then normal MM 2 band EQ and stacked vol/ tone for the Precision pup

So it’s a little bit like a Ray, Precision, Jazz and Sabre all in one!

... hence why some of my basses are now fearing the exit... 😳 😂

Nice. I should imagine with the wider spacing than the HH that the coil split sound gets a decent jazz bass sound?

Yeah it’s nearly there, more closer to a 70s style clinical Jazz if anything.

As my neck pup is further forward that the Special, and with the way it’s been wired,  it actually turned out much like position 4 on a HH Ray.
