My USA Sterling, I picked this up from @Happypants  September 2022

was a long time search bass for me after I tried one in the early 90’s

I preferred the overall feel and tone to the stingray but at the time I was recording with a stingray and didn’t want to upset the apple cart.

Got the full works, string mutes, a beautiful Birdseye maple neck IMG_3123.thumb.jpeg.5e06569450c81167342352f9fba994c8.jpegand the ceramic pickup.

No matter what happens this is my fall back never sell bass.

cheers Jason

You lucky dog! I am not a member here but a common acquaintance indicated that you picked up this bass, a bass that I owned in the late 90s until August 2008. That was a killer bass for me and I hope you love it (seems that you do). Would love to start a convo with you about it if you are interested. I have some YT videos with it and some other recordings.

@dub_junkiethats my all time favourite Stingray.

adore it.

And mine. Finally after 30 years I've  got the bass I used to gig with all those years ago but sold when I moved to Australia (not the exact one but the same)

Very nice. How many SR5s do you have? Notice any difference?

I did have four including the two Specials above but those and an '05 have been traded away as this blueburst is the only one I want to pick up. This bass has calmed my GAS down a lot 😁

The Specials are fantastic. I'm not going to knock anything about them but I guess I just like the old contours and signature clanky treble

Don’t blame you. Still got a 1995 red SR5 I’ve had for 15 years.
Did you buy the purple Lakland that was on sale here bitd?

So I thought a Cutlass was a graphite neck Stingray

and a Caprice was the EBMM version of a Precision...

My Sub 5 is heading to the luthier's on 10/01 as I don't like the 10th fret at all. The neck however is good so assuming this "fret level" is not problematic I expect it'll be a good purchase.

You are right as this is what the Cutlass originally was, but now it's a kind of EBMM P-Bass...

Here's an original Cutlass, the model was introduced in very late 1982:

The 55-02 that Paddy was selling? Yes I got that in June and it's since become my main gigging bass. Planning to share the love between it and the blueburst StingRay.

In true musicman fashion we have a new bass at the time (Cutlass) being given the name of a previous model from 35 years previous.

Cutlass is the MM P bass. Possibly in response to Fender doing the single H/3EQ Dimension bass? The Caprice was the P/J with a J neck.

Both were only made for a couple of years or thereabouts so likely didn't sell. The Cutlass is an absolutely superb P though.

Steve(Kiwi) got to play it

I remember reading a Cass Lewis (TTD - Skunk) interview he liked the Cutlass

I bought a status neck 20 years ago for my SR4 but went back to original neck after a few years as the graphite while amazingly made, sounded a bit clackity.
Wanted to love it but unfortunately no luck

I use compression and a very light overdrive with my 2EQ Fretless Stingray

for Blues and Walking lines. I like the original attack and bloom IMG_1139.thumb.jpeg.59234696061b9480c0daf9e1eb0cf160.jpegIMG_1140.thumb.jpeg.c24b7db28e69de5ae398fbfdfc637f39.jpeg
