dub_junkie Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 my new (to me) Stingray 5. got it from Monz on here in a trade deal. Quote
gafbass02 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) How about a '92 stingray 'scuse the iPhone pics, they don't quite capture the depth and lushness of the neck The action goes very low and the neck is much shallower than most rays I've played, and seems to be gloss finished. BB3000S Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 All natural is so 100% right on a SR4 - lovely figuring on the maple as well. Congratulations!! Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Yeah thats well nice, I still defend my stance that a little premium over a later model is justified for that era of Ray. Try getting all them features on a new one. Quote
gafbass02 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I agree, newer ones can be so bland comparitively. Quote
martthebass Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Never really worked out how necks were selected in terms of figuring. My old 1990 Ray had a small amount of birdseye but was quite bland in comparison to GafBass's. On the other hand, my (new to me) 2001 Ray is just as figured as this and is up to my 30th Ray where figured necks were supposedly specifically selected. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 My 2002 is quite bland but tinted down nicely with age, It has a few bits of birdseye but not much compared to some ten years older. My 2010 Ray5 is blander than a Squier Affinity range! I think the neck on your (Our ) 30th will of been selected for its grain much more than a normal 2006 version as not many around that era have much going on IME. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 In fact you can see the colour difference just from my avatar between the three basses. The Ray5 has tinted a little since that photo was taken though. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Now you have given me rosewood GAS again Very cool bass uke. Quote
