GreeneKing
Here's some shots of the pearl white Sterling 5. As you can see it is mint and still has the bar code sticker on the rear - I'm louth to remove it The rear of the headstock isn't so mint but the lack of neck dive transforms it's playability: Peter Edited November 21, 2011 by GreeneKing

stingrayPete1977
I bet it's been discussed more than once about a re issue? Maybe Sterling wants the range to be more about his models although I presume the Ray is still the best seller so he wouldn't drop that. Higgie
More Pearl Blue awesomeness! As for the pickup height I would raise the DG end up as far as you feel is comfortable for your style ( I have raised my pre EB too far and I keep clipping the strings on the poles when Im giving it some) then lower the EA end down until its balanced, The secret is to lower the EA end rather than keep raising the DG as the pickup and pre amp have enough output to have it quite far away from the strings anyway. I guess this youtube video classes as EBMM porn especially as it contains the Blue Pearl bass that is so popular right now? Shameless tedious link plug
The bass tone on this tune is superb! Love it. Good tune too. With regards to the Sabre debate, now that they do Stingray HH models, there's not really much point, is there?...or is there more difference than I thought? Hopefully someone can enlighten me! I'll try and get some pics up of my 3 MM's this week. Just restrung my Silver Sparkle SR5 with DR Green Neons...Looks rather snazzy if I do say so myself

Apologies for the quality, the pictures were taken with my iPod Touch... 1999 Stingray 4, Trans Teal with Mirror pickguard. Maple neck, Rosewood Fretboard, with Hipshot De-Tuner and 2 Band EQ. Currently strung with Flats (Although I think I might swap them to the Fretless...) 1989 Fretless Stingray 4, Trans Red with clear pickguard. Maple neck, Unlined Pau Ferro Fretboard. 3 Band EQ and Nordstrand MM4.2 pickup. Currently strung with Rounds 2005 Stingray 5, Silver Sparkle with Black Pearl pickguard. Maple neck, Maple Fretboard. All stock apart from a new nut. Just restrung with DR Green Neons, 45-125. Can't really tell in the pictures, but it's a real "Gliterry" finish in the flesh! And the obligatory "Family shot"... stingrayPete1977
Ah nice one Higgie! As for the video, funnily enough the tone on that version is an OLP albeit a Tony Levin special. Im in the studio next Tuesday to redo it with my blue SR5, I will post the new version once its done, thats why its just on the film studios youtube for now until the track is re done. It wont be much different to be fair but thats not me playing on that one either Its Dave the singer (Im such a fraud ) The main reasons are so Im on the finished record when it hits ITunes just for vanity and there are a few bits where it has not cut through the mix properly in the verses for some reason. oli@bass
With regards to the Sabre debate, now that they do Stingray HH models, there's not really much point, is there?...or is there more difference than I thought? Hopefully someone can enlighten me!
Thought the same before I was alble to play them. But they're quite different. Most obvious is that the Sabre was available with the 2 band preamp before the 3 band came out. Less obvious is that the pickups are not in the exact same spot, but IMO they're pretty similar so that the difference is not huge because of that (as opposed to the L2K which has PUs at complete different positions). However, the pickups themselves are different in that they are covered, smaller and the neck PU has not 8 but 16 pole pieces, and they are most probably not wound to the same specs. What I really like about the Sabre blade switching is that it is a cross over between the StingRay HH and StingRay HS: You get the following combinations: 1. neck S 2. neck S + bridge H 3. bridge H 4. neck H + bridge H 5. neck H These are all very usable and distinct sounds, with the position 2 probably being my favorite sound on the Sabre. The HS combo gives you the typical StingRay bridge H growl slightly smoothed out with a bigger bottom typical for the neck S plus and a rather peculiar metallic upper mid/treble edge which makes the bass stand out nicely even in a crowded mix of loud guitars, keys and drums. I would say that position 3 (single bridge H) is about the only position being similar to a modern StingRay, while all the others sound different. To my ears, the neck PU as single coils gets you into throaty P-bass territory while the neck PU as humbucker is very fat and round. What appeals to me (but probably turns off others) is that the Sabre keeps a certain metallic edge that brings out the ring of roundwounds in all settings. That combined with the elegant simplicity and effectivity of the 2 band EQ makes for a very nice all round bass full of character and attitude. IMO, a Classic Sabre would be a worthwhile addition to the EBMM line. But in the mean time I'm happy to have my vintage babies Edited November 28, 2011 by oli@bass
stingrayPete1977
If I was playing 4 stringers more often I think a pre EB Sabre would have to be added to the collection, what about a Classic series Sabre 5 String?!

Apothem
This is a QUESTION for Stingray CLASSIC 4 owners (apologies for posting it here but I hope to find a small number of you that can answer me): can you please tell me the bridge measurements (in mm.) 1) between the two lateral bolts centres and 2) between the same bolts internally (the width for the saddles) Thanks in advance. stingrayPete1977
Do you mean the large anchor bolt things? My pre EB is 89mm centre to centre and 76mm outer edge of each going across the saddles. I presume the Classic bridge is the same as my pre EB?
