Its bonkers innit! :-)
I was always a plain white/black or natural bass kind of guy but this one has opened a can of worms
I keep sitting here looking at it thinking i should buy some white flares and a wide collared shirt

Hats off to you, that neck now looks gorgeous. I might have to look into this on my black beauty :-)

Cheers mate, it sure is.
I didn't really get on with the oiled/waxed finish & it was starting to look like a weathered fence.

Yeah, I had a white 2007 a couple of years back that went the same way. Yours now looks the same finish as the std Precision I recently had, black with a golden gloss neck. Gorgeous 😍. I may be dropping Mr Shucker a line.........

It suits the bass better I think, high gloss neck with the sparkle of the pearl blue. I have no idea why MM & so many other builders have stopped doing it as standard, cost cutting no doubt.
Jon done an awesome job it is literally flawless & exactly how I asked for it to be. It's not cheap but if you plan on keeping the bass & like lacquered necks it's a worthy investment.
I showed Jon a picture of a new classic ray & asked for the same finish/tint.

So yes, having always loved the sound and look of the Stingray and feeling flush I went a-hunting yesterday. I've played the Ray 34 before but never the real thing and I wanted to give one a go. Fell in love instantly, especially with the neck which is perfect for me. So a thousand fat ones laid down on an all black rosewood 2eq, hopefully arriving tomorrow. Can't wait!

Please can someone who knows better than I explain the difference between the Stingray and the Cutlass please?

The Cutlass I and II were Music Man's attempt to join in the graphite neck revolution by teaming up with Modulus Graphite to produce two short-lived models.

Earliest examples used existing body stock (some going back to 1979) and three-bolt neck plates, although these were soon changed to rectangular 4-bolt plates. The 3-bolt version also had through-body stringing whereas the 4-bolt was fitted with a top load bridge unit.

The Cutlass I was essentially a Stingray and the Cutlass II a Sabre, each using those distinctive body shapes and hardware, although the Cutlass II did not retain the exposed pole pieces as seen on the Sabre's twin pickups and also offered a simplified circuit too.

The Cutlass may have been all about the graphite neck but it was obviously not that popular at the time as very few units were actually built.
That's it, my black beauty is off to Jon Shuker on Saturday. I'll post the pics when it's done 😉

Well after a few weeks away with Jon Shuker, I yesterday picked up my Black and Maple 3 band with it's beautifully refinished tinted gloss neck.

The neck had at some point in it's past had an oil refinish which seemed to have reacted badly with something as there was a 'tacky' feel to it that couldn't be removed.

Horizontalste of this parish had posted pictures of his refinished neck so it was a no brainer. I've always loved the look and feel of gloss necks/boards so off to Jon Shuker it went.

I must say I'm absolutely stunned at the quality of the work carried out, the finish is stunning. What was a pretty bland looking pale maple neck and board has now been brought to life with the new finish really drawing out the detail in the wood. I've tried to capture it in the photographs but as you know, it's difficult to capture that almost 3D hologram effect as the light catches the wood.

If anyone else is considering the same work, I cannot recommend Jon highly enough. He's a magician!

(Sorry that the pics aren't rotated, I was losing the will to live trying to sort them out)

Looks sweet D. Does that mean the Wal will be left on the stand a bit ;-)

Still miss my old lacquered 1989 Ray, I wish I could go back a few years and slap my younger self out of the decision to sell that beautiful ray and buy a Warwick.....

The Wal had to go a few months back. It was being left on the wall as a very expensive ornament :-( I think this bad boy's back to being the main weapon of choice - starting at rehearsal tonight!

Seems like SBMM is OK to post here, so I recently dipped my toe in the MM world by acquiring this SB14. It's very blue and the white pickguard looks way better than the black stock one, to my eyes at least. War volume test tomorrow night at rehearsal, excited to hear what this can do.
