For my part I prefer the 3EQ on fretted (nice to have mids control for on the fly adjustments on stage) and 2EQ on fretless (seems to just 'work').

Exactly this. I personally prefer the 3 band with the mid adjustment available should I need it. The EQ on the Stingray Special is more refined than on a standard 3 band version. They’re both great, just a little different.

SurroundedByManatees
I was looking for a good Music Man for a while, that needed to have a lacquered neck. I don't like the oiled ones as much.. Today I went for a drive to pick up this 30th anniversary model! Its such a beautiful bass... Tommorow I'll be done with the set up and give it a spin. I haven't heard it with proper fresh strings yet, but it sounded great already with dead rounds. So I guess flats would sound great too. First I'll mount a set of fat beams for full Stingray aggression Edited July 6, 2019 by SurroundedByManatees

Soledad
Been having a browse the usual places (Bay, FB, Gumtree) and every one at the mo seems 3EQ. Are the 2 band quite rare or is this just sod's law. I'm in no rush but plenty of 3s around, no 2s that I've found.

gt4ever
What an amazing thread! I say amazing, I mean dangerous. I had thought I’d quashed my GAS and then I find this thread!! Anyway here’s my single ray that ever owned, bought new in 94 and still in nearly new condition, gigged heavily but treasured. I’m on the lookout for matching 5 but unsure I can handle the extra weight...

I've got 10 of the flippin' things and they're all different 🤣 If you get the Stingray bug, it won't stop there either. Pretty soon you'll be looking at HH's, HS's, SLO's and Sabre's. You'll know you've fallen down the rabbit hole when you've bought your first Bongo 😎 Lol 😝 yup that’s me. SR4H. Three band. Then came another SR4H. followed by a Bongo 4H and recently a SR4HH..... I thought that should of killed all gas but now my attention is in the direction of a Big Al..... or maybe a Reflex? both 😜 Edited July 10, 2019 by danny-79
StarryDan
What an amazing bass to play. Stingray PDN Starry Night. More than the sparkles it was the neck that does it for me. Roasted maple with gunstock oil so smooth and silky. Enjoy 😉
Raslee
My darling! I've simply found 'the one' after years of trying many, many, many basses. Tonally the most versatile Stingray i've ever owned, it's very light and looks proper bling in the lights!....yup best bass ever for me.

BassAgent
Hey Music Man aficionados, I have a question: why doesn't EBMM make a fretless bass anymore? I've been GASsing on a fretless Stingray (because of Tony and Pino of course) for a few days and was checking out which models exist but there are no new models available as fretless anymore.

I’m now down to one bass (I don’t include my Steinberger Spirit that only gets used in hotels!) I couldn’t justify another bass - something that after 27 years of playing and over 60 basses I never thought I’d say. I have the HH version and in conjunction with my Helix Stomp it’s all covered Your bass is a stunner 👍👊 Edited July 14, 2019 by Chiliwailer

I think with the black hardware the torts a bit out there too much on its own. However it cost a bloody fortune in import duties that pickguard so I’ll get my use out of it for now. I need to get round to sorting a d-tuner too at some point.
kusee pee
Just got into the musicman world after many years of many other basses. Now got two pretty much the same spec SR5s. The red is likely to be the main gigging bass with the burgundy as back up. Or I might swap around if the vibe takes me. Gigged them for the first time last week. Powerful basses, cut through so nicely. Sorry for the rubbish pic. The red has a nice grain to it. Now I need to find another mm hardcase as only one came with one. spyder
Hi guys. After playing every bass in the world (LOL) over the last 15 years and never owning a Ray I finally have one..... And I really like it. I picked up this Ray 5 in a trade a few days ago and I can't put it down. Really looking forward to playing it in church this morning. Is the finish original? I haven't managed to find a red burst like it. It has a sparkling matalic finish to the red paint.
