hiram.k.hackenbacker
The one with the graphite is a 20th Anniversary isn’t it? What neck did it have on it originally?

It was stock with a Birdseye maple neck, I will reunite the neck with the body at some stage, it’s a very nice bass.

Nice. I have the rosewood version.
ManchesterWill
Not posted much at all in the years I've been on so thought I'd make a start with my Sterling Ray34HH. Absolutely love this bass and the roasted maple neck feels incredible. Pickups are pretty decent though I may swap them out in the future (bridge one especially lacks a little bite), but positions 2 and 4 (both outer coils and both inner coils respectively) sound absolutely incredible! Highly highly recommended for anyone who wants a Ray but can't afford an EBMM.

hiram.k.hackenbacker
I was photographing this to put it up for sale today (don’t get the wrong idea - I’m fully paid up already) and I just can’t bring myself to let it go. It’s just a really lovely example. Looks stunning (much better in person), plays beautifully and sounds just like it should. The neck is as smooth as silk and it’s weight is very reasonable. I’ve never gigged it and I’m not sure it’s even seen a rehearsal space actually. Back in storage you go 😎. EDIT: It’s a PDN Neptune Blue by the way. Purchased from @BassTractor a few years ago. It's also one of only two basses that I miss of the 16 that I let go - the other one being a '98 StingRay 5 fretless - that too an instrument that starts playing the moment you just look at it. Edit to add I let three or four Bongos go too, and thought it would be very, very hard. Never missed those. Strange how these things go. I bet you would still have that if you had bought it. It’s bizarre that they can very so much from such a small batch. My one is 9.2lbs. Just crazy. 22 minutes ago, BassTractor said: Aye. I bet, if it was anywhere near as good as this one. Back to the drawing board then. The next option was either the 30th I bought from @martthebass or the Sledge. I’ve had the 30th out recently and I doubt I’ll find another as good if I sold mine. The Sledge likewise and it’s the only Ray that’s wearing flats at the moment, so that’s staying for now. I really don’t know how this ‘thinning the heard’ thing is supposed to work 😂.

I loved them, their ergonomics, their 4-band, and their colours (a.o. the original Dargie Delight and the second Dargie Delight), but the Rays had a bigger impact on me. Here's a pic of your Ray showing its wood inside the blue. Not the very bestest piece of wood ever, but I liked it in total. I still had the purple FB4, and that was why at the time I couldn’t justify buying it. ...and stop thinking about thinning that hurd of yours!

I would love a 30th Anni, or my old Neptune Blue back, or the Honeyburst ‘95 for sale at the moment, but I already have 6 basses that each time I play I can’t think of letting go, so I’d just end up in the same boat but with 7 instead. 🙄

There’s not many basses I regret parting with but the 30th I sold you was one of em. I was going through a Fender Jazz phase....ironically no Jazzes anymore but I still have a couple of MMs. I think the 30th just edges out my Starry Night though but I prefer the ebony board on the SN.

With gigs being cancelled as quickly as they are being booked (they’ve just cancelled the Farmyard rally in Helmsley on the 25th weekend that we were really looking forward to due to the covid spike) I can’t see any gas fundage for some time yet. AinsleyWalker
I've had my MM Stingray for 10 years now... The old sunburst finish was covered in dings and dents, so my friend and I stripped it down! Pretty happy with the results!! Here's a lovely '92 that I picked up recently. Resistance was futile, I've always wanted a teal 'ray and I've always loved the birdsye/flame necks from this era - both boxes now ticked. It's in wonderful condition and the neck truly is stunning 😍. Edited October 19, 2020 by Deedee
