Love that blue sparkle! I wish MM would make the Special 5s with the same pickguard and control plate as the 4 (like the classic range) or like the Sterling. It much cleaner to my eyes.

Well the Stingray Special 4 was short-lived. Absolutely nothing wrong with it but it was a bit too weighty for me and in all honesty my G&L L-2000 was covering all my 4 string Ray sounds.

Anyway, I swapped it for a second Stingray Special 5 but have strung it with Flatwounds to add a bit of variation. It's a stunning bass and weighs in at under 8 and a half pounds although it actually feels lighter.

Are SBMM basses allowed in this topic? Because I've been looking at a Stingray or Sterling and today I borrowed this SB14 from a friend and I'm really impressed by the sound and build quality. I'm going to check out a "real" MM Sterling next Sunday. 1993, with mutes, I believe it has flatwound strings, are there specific things I have to keep in mind when checking it out?

So yeah I was actually convinced after playing that red Sterling for five minutes so now I have this.

Quite an interesting one here. a rare MIJ Stingray. I'm tempted to get it as a backup for my '83 which matches perfectly (apart from slab body, 2 band and bridge mutes) but probably better not

I picked one of these up for @TheGreekonce - was absolutely beautiful, every part as good as the USA version.

Was a shame I had to send it onto him 😉

Definitely good value compared to a US built one (and by built I mean screwed together!)

I played my Stingray at the weekend and it just sounded perfect. I'm really happy with my rig, too, which I don't use very often (Blackstar 2x10 and 1x15)

I swear 'Rays have the punch and thump of a P combined with the snap and texture of a Jazz... hard to explain, but it's so clear and expressive sounding and works great with effects. This was the first time I used my Mu-Tron and Danelectro Cool Cat 'live' and was absolutely delighted. OC2 into the filter was magical!

If you're finding it a touch quiet, can I suggest plugging the amp in? :)

A minor modification to help with my incompetence. Luminlay fret markers. I had them fitted by a local luthier. He's done a beautiful job, perfectly flush and in daylight you'd struggle to see that they're not just the original dots.

Well, all being well - this arrives tomorrow.

June 1993 SR5

Teal - not 100% sure on pickguard, I’ve bought a black one in preparation.

It’s had a life. Hopefully it will have another with me. See if my five string playing “skills” still exist…

Always loved the contours on the body of the SR5. Hope you like it!

Wanted one for years - this Natural one was going to be mine, I hesitated and lost out.

Yet I didn’t hesitate with the shirt…shocking…
