June 1993 SR5 Teal - not 100% sure on pickguard, I’ve bought a black one in preparation. It’s had a life. Hopefully it will have another with me. See if my five string playing “skills” still exist… Much as I do like my white pearl guards, I must admit something on the dark side might just be more suitable. Either way, it looks a beauty. 👍👍

ezbass
Back in the MM club after many years. Very happy with this wee beastie. Nothing timorous about it, despite being passive. I thoroughly agree with @ped’s comment, “'Rays have the punch and thump of a P combined with the snap and texture of a Jazz,” it’s very a much a Swiss Army Knife tone. Adding a Sadowsky preamp to the SS turns it into a full on, active MM.

Ander87
I had a a stingray Special 5 of the first run as my second bass (a treat after years of guitars and acknowledging bass is where my heart is)… back then I wasn’t playing as much in bands, only a project, and whilst saving for house, wedding and other misfortunes, a SR5 Special felt a bit too much bass for me - sadly I had to let it go...: Drop dead gorgeous in Cruz Teal…! Some 20 basses later I still miss a Special and now I play in 2 bands, my 35th bday is approaching and got a new job/promotion so it all lined up for this beauty to happen 2nd hand from Kev in this forum: I am so excited about this - it’s jumped right up my #1 bass, feels like meeting with an old friend again, as you can see it is in perfect nick! I’m struggling to play any of my other 2 basses to be honest…! Having said that each will take the stage for the dingy gigs hehe Surprisingly the Stingray can do a great P sound with the bass maxed out and the treble zeroed… This Last preamp is super versatile, of course jazzy and slap/pop sounds are pretty easy to pull but most times I keep it all flat with minor changes. Weight. Just over 10lbs. Which - is a bit heavy for me. I’d prefer 9lbs. But… The sounds. The sounds, the neck, the feel of something that good. love it.
Ander87
Aha! Noticed the other 1/2 in the UK and I’m tempted. Plastics on and all…. Aaaah… how do you compare it to a stingray? Guess similar to a current day 4HH…?

Better than that, I’m about 10 stingrays in… Wish there was a classic sabre 5 😂
Ander87
If only they were under 9lbs more often… that 1979 with graphite neck is looking at me but again, weight and whatnot likely will throw me off.
sshorepunk
I’ve not posted this for a while, for those who haven’t seen it! 1999 musicman Sterling, was pearl blue, but ended up with a ‘lockdown’ refinish in sonic blue with a new pickgaurd its not perfect, mostly due to some issues I had with the grain in the wood, but it’s good enough for me and looks great, in my opinion! its a tad heavy, but plays so well! can’t believe the prices people are asking for these, they don’t come up for sale very often though!

Old Horse Murphy
So I'm the end I kept this one and let my natural Stingray 5 Special go. I loved them both, so was happy to keep either one.

Ander87
Ah! I was debating whether to get a 5 string again, but in reality I would only have it for home use and felt unjustified. So, you may ask, what’s better than one Stingray Special? TWO! This one is yet lighter at 3.75kg (what amazing times we’re living in to have rays under 4kg!). A tad brighter on the treble side so this one will be out on gigs more often, the sparkle boy most rehearsals/videos/studio… I was for a moment thinking I better get a HH version but in fairness I find myself not needing more than one pickup, the preamp is super flexible…! Happypants
@Ander87 Let me know when you're selling one of these! Both stunning. Any time I go off the rails bass purchase wise, it's bass heroes like you and @AndyTravis that put it all in perspective 😂

ped
I bought a white cover for my bass recently just to try. It’s slightly whiter than the body (as I thought it would be) so probably won’t use it.
