Always good to see some sterling love

Always surprised that you don't see that many around when it is clearly a much better bass than the 'Ray (ducks head).

I do love ‘Rays but I must admit, I’d be at the front of the queue if they decided to produce a Sterling with Stingray neck dimensions.

I'm still hopeful of one day finding a Stingray Special with Starry Night finish, around 8.5lbs, with a Sterling profile neck.....😂

Did MM ever make a short scale USA Sterling?

Well, the shorty ‘Ray is pretty much a Sterling without the preamp. It has the series/single/parallel selector, small body and a 38mm nut with.

I’ve had this for about twenty years now , and keep fairly fresh rounds on it. I’m mostly a flatwound thumper , but this has such a gorgeous top end.

Last week, I got this lovely 1991 Stingray 4 H. Killer bass and with 4kg not too heavy either. Really like the sound of the 2EQ. At least to my ears, it sounds ballsier than my previous 3EQ SRs. Don't miss the mids knob. My new amp has high and low mids, so sorted 😉

Big shout-out to @Dov65 who found it for me on the UK Bass Marketplace on Facebook. Thanks, buddy 👍

That is perfect. Please bear me in mind if you ever move it on. My favourite era for Rays 👍

Love the Amethyst Sparkle.

What a great trio of StingRays!

I picked up Waynesworld's sunburst Sterling Ray 25CA last week.

I already have another of these in the Lake Toluca blue finish which I'm now in the process of stringing

E to C.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of these particular basses. I used to own a Ray34CA which punched way, way above its price point so when I saw these used, with the simplicity and looks of the 4 string, I thought I'd use them as a reliable, familiar means of getting back into 5 strings again.

Been very impressed so far. Now I've gone and bought a Ray35, it will be an interesting comparison - 2EQ vs 3EQ etc

Sadly not close enough, I love the ceramic pup and 3 band pre on the Sterling - it makes the bass.

Will do. However, it took me years to find an EBMM SR 4H in natural with 2EQ, maple fingerboard, a nice wood grain and arm and body contours, so I hope that I do not have to sell it anytime soon. It plays extremely well and I really like the sound of the 2EQ. I know with EQing you can also get the 3EQs close to it, but I am a plug and play kind of guy, so it is a great bass for me. Great build quality too.

I once had a 1990 Ray as per this one but in white.  It was a peach but sadly I joined Basschat and after 15 years with this beauty I decided to move it on in a fit of GAS.  The worst thing was I sold it to buy a Warwick.

The shame.....

I put mine through a Sadowsky preamp pedal (2 band) and that neodymium pickup is very nice indeed. However, you know what you like and, fortunately, both are probably able to be retrofitted to a ‘Ray SS. You know you want to ;) :D

I’ll keep on the look out for one, but as I usually go one in one out I can’t decide which of the JMJ, MW Mustang or Fallout bass would go ☹️

That’d be hard, bass player’s Sophie’s choice.
