After a break from playing i've been loving my Sterling 4HH in Trans Gold lately - checked out the website and they've totally decimated that range, 2 colours and single humbucker only?!

Also can't believe the price these basses are running, I ordered mine through Bassdirect about 10 years ago and think I paid £1550!

Calling their budget range "Sterling" is a crazy shout too, but I imagine there's already been plenty ranting on that front 😂

I know what you mean, I’m one of those who prefers the Sterling to the Ray but explaining to the uninitiated what it is….

Still looking for an illusive Starry Night finish 4H Sterling

Been absent for a little bit but have been playing a lot more.

Added another SUB a couple of years ago I picked up super cheap and that was my main gigging bass for a good while.

About two weeks ago I had the opportunity to grab one of the only 2 Darkrays in NZ. It has not disappointed!!

My two Stingrays.

On the right a 1977 which I actually sold 40 years ago in a fit of pique, not long after my then wife-to-be had paid a local jeweller to engrave my name onto the battery plate.  Aside from my own regret she has never quite forgiven me for selling it so we’ve been looking for this guitar ever since!  Well, we found it in late August this year, battery plate still intact, and I bought it back.

On the left is an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray Classic that I bought in 2014 as the colour and appointments reminded me a lot of my original bass.  So now I have them both. 🙂

Thank you!  I was pretty chuffed about it.

For a whole week after I got it back I had to sleep on my hands to stop me from clapping. 😂

This really is a lovely story. Congrats 👍

I just hope you won't sell it again. Yes, @AndyTravis, I am looking at you 😁

This is a cracking story - looks like it was well looked after over the years too?

I know. I miss my Ray 5’s, my bongo and my sabre. My ray Classic, my piezo ray…but most of all, my 94 trans blueburst ☹️

The guy that had it for the biggest part of the 40 years played almost 1000 gigs with it and there are some scars as you would expect.

But as you say he clearly took good care of the instrument. 👍

Really interesting comparison actually. I know it's in the sound, but that pre-eb looks so much cooler despite the relatively subtle cosmetic differences... Everything just seems to line up a little better

Snapped this morning - fretless and fretted US Stingrays, with some bonues Trace Elliot - so good I used the thumbnail on my profile!
