Silvia Bluejay Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) As inspired by Seashell's anniversary thread. I'll start with my Crafter. I still have it, immaculately preserved, and will never get rid of it. This is a photo taken several years ago with a rather crap camera, and I'm posting it on purpose - taking a new one with my all-singing, all-dancing DSLR would ruin the feel of this thread. Edit: and yes, the photo contains a selfie as well, if you look carefully Edited January 28, 2015 by bluejay Quote
bartelby Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Apart from a couple of photos of my second bass, taken in 1989, most of the photos I've taken of my gear has been in the last 5 years or so. I have no photos of stuff in the intervening 20 years. Quote
tinyd Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm pretty sure that this Kay was like mine:- Quote
Twincam Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Here is mine a Vintage pre wilkinson i named Laura. This was the explanation of the name from my very first basschat introduction post. "Bought a cheap 15 quid pre wilkinson Vintage from a mate. That had done the rounds between friends, wasn't in the best of condition and was filthy, so i named it after a girlfriend it reminded me of haha." Added the cool speed strips myself. Edited January 28, 2015 by Twincam Quote
KiOgon Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Not actually mine but very very close - my Dad 'helped' me make my first, a copy of the Vox tear drop as used by Bill Wyman circa '63/4 Quote

paul_5 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Short scale (30" scale) Hohner Baron Bass in black. Horrible 2 + 2 BBOT bridge and really skinny tuners. I started sanding it back to the wood one summer and hit chipboard…. Says it all really. Cameronj279 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The bass on the left. It's the only photo I can find and it's with a cheap as chips "Crafter" bass that had faulty electronics and a neck that was easily the chunkiest thing I've ever used. Both sounded absolutely awful. Black one felt quite nice to play if I remember right (it was only 4 and a half years ago) Quote
gary mac Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 1973/74 my first bass and rig. Epiphone semi acoustic. Quote

Graham Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Sticker covered Squier Affinity Precision, I'll have had it thirteen years in about two months. [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/20140323_205700_zps665dc003.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Quote
Mr Arkadin Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Love those Burns and Kay basses. This is my bass: OK I only it got it in 2012, but I'm primarily a guitarist (of sorts). Edited January 28, 2015 by Mr Arkadin Quote

Columbus jazz bought from bassist in school band I was in briefly (as a singer - ha, laughable!) for £30. Can you spot the really tasteful and hardly noticeable mod he'd done? waynepunkdude Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 My Encore shortscale, bought secondhand in 1995 for £45, only had 3 strings, took another 4 weeks of saving up to get an E string, still have it, will never be sold. Quote
neepheid Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Epiphone EB-3. Long gone, no regrets - turned out it was not really what I was looking for in a bass, I just didn't know it at the time Quote
mikebass84 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 My Tanglewood Warrior IIIFH. Such a pretty bass Quote
Happy Jack Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 My very first bass was actually the one I bought for my daughter, and absolutely not what I would have chosen. This what I replaced it with: A new 1963 RI from Macari's. It took me a VERY long time to realise that I am fundamentally a Precision guy. Quote
Rich Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 This isn't my actual bass, but mine's identical. A '64 Höfner Artist II, bought from my metalwork teacher for £20 in 1982. My second bass was a Columbus Jazz, just like Kev's but without the P pickup. Quote
geoffbyrne Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 My first bass was a Sunn Mustang: Actually, once it was set up it played surprisingly well. G. Quote
obbm Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 My first was a Framus Star Bass bought in 1963. Quote
