Recently Ive been having another bout of Carpal Tunnel symptoms, most annoyingly the numbness at night keeping me awake.
It got me wondering how others manage with it & how do folk treat the numbness?
I can't be the only one here who suffers.

One other thing that I found may help with the night time pins and needles short term is to dangle the offending arm down over the side of the bed fingers downwards. Still see a doctor and get it sorted properly though as stressed in the other posts above.

I had the option of an operation which could have made things worse.
A friend suggested a Chinese alternative healer.
Ok for a laugh, he took out a silver rod with a small ball on the end and wriggled it in under my wrist then turned it forcefully.
I wept with pain.
Next morning, nothing, gone and it never came back.
£70 result !

After years of suffering, I decided to get some help and see the Doc . He refered me to a specialist .
After tests he found that LH was severely restricted , and Rh badly restricted ,
I`m waiting for an op ( RH first ) within the next few weeks . Then the LH in a few months time !
To help stop pins / needles overnight , I use a wrist support , it keeps your wrist straight , so stops the nerves getting any more resticted than they need to be.
I`ll keep you posted .

Cheers Pete.

After visiting the doc the outcome was the my symptoms aren't severe enough or persistent enough for him to advise surgery.
I've also seen him in the past for sleep related issues & he thinks the two have a connection, well the severity of the numbness anyway.
I'm currently trailing sleeping with my wrists in a neutral position (not easy for a side sleeper) & it helps massively. I also have a pair of braces that I can use if need be but so far being conscious of my position when I get into bed & the odd anti-inflammatory seem to be fending off the numbness but for how long is anyone's guess.

I noticed it hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread, and it may help anyone currently needing help - but BAPAM was recommended to be on BC and they have been great.

http://www.bapam.org.uk/

I started off concerned I had CTS, quickly diagnosed as rotator cuff injury, and I'm undergoing treatment through them. The specialists understand the demands and nuances of playing an instrument.

Also - stating the bleedin' obvious - but vital you review how your work environment affects the injury too (if you have a non-bass day job). I spent far too long coiled round a laptop. Moving to proper ergonmic set up has really helped.

Had op, about 20 mins total time ,
Most painfull part was the local anaesthetic ( had to give me two lots - large hands - They have to get the needle in the correct place, really hurt )
Now its the morning after , just a bit of pain where the op was...................but can still move my fingers , bit sore .
I have to change the dressind in 48 hrs ,
( Its takin me ages to write this message with my left hand .....LOL ! )

Good luck with the recovery Pete. Post some pics of the stitching when you change the dressing. Those of us that've been through it already can compare notes :-) - My stitching looked like I'd done it myself with my eyes shut. cool scar though :D

Removed bandages last night , dried blood everwhere - but not on the incision or stitches !
Dressing came of clean !
Put new dressing on , leaving bandages off as told , got to keep it dry and clean - can actually move fingers now , with a bit of pain and numbness , thumb is the worst .
Stitches looked quite neat ( will be removed 14th ) told MUST keep fingers moving .
Actually shaved ( wet shave ) with my RH this morning - no cuts !
Getting better each day - cant wait to pick up bass and play .

Few things I have noticed since the op .........................

1) I dont get woken up with numbness in my RH at night

2) When eating a meal using knife and fork my RH does not go numb , so I dont have to let it hang down beside me to get rid of the

numbness .

( Can play bass for about half an hour now , then it starts to hurt - thumb still worse )

As the wife keeps reminding me , its only 8 days since the op !

Played for at least an hour, thumb is still a little numb at the tip, but getting better every day.
Stitches out tomorrow ,
LH woke me up last night - numb !
Could be because I am using it a lot more , untill I get the RH fully functional .
Highly recommend the op .............................
