ikay
It does however appear to be a rather nice BB1000. Probably a genuine mistake as the owners manual covers the 800-1200 series.
LukeFRC
I've a BB1200 from the same year - flipping amazing bass
solo4652
Email from seller; "Thank you for your message. I thought it was a BB1200 because of the serial number which I'd researched and the manual that came with it (which was for BB1200 and BB1000 basses). But after your message I did some more googling and can now see that mine is a BB1000. I'll try to research the serial number again to get a manufacturing date. Then I'll amend the listing asap. Thanks for your help."
pete.young
Cool. Yamaha serial numbers from that period are notoriously difficult to make any sense out of, I was wondering how he'd definitely established it was a 1977. My BB800 has a lower number, and I bought that used in 1979.
http://www.yamaha.com/yamahaguitars/ElectricandBassGuitarSerialNumberSystems.pdf If you look on page 2-3 at System # E1 So that bass is probably 1978 not 1977. My BB1200 is serial number 001134 which would suggest it was the 133rd Yamaha BB1200 ever made - what number is your BB800?
pete.young
Thanks for that Luke. Mine is 001176 so possibly 1977, which sounds about right I think it was a couple of years old when I got it.
though interesting as not all that first 269 would have been BB1200 then... which makes me doubt the model breakup. Does mean we've got the both got the one of the first couple hundred Yamaha BB's though which is cool! Theres a later 70's BB1200 on ebay at the moment -why are these early yamaha BB's so so so cheap secondhand compared to everything else?
