thebuckets Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 been looking at the ibby sr series as im looking to go thin neck plus light weight. (they are light arent they?) The 500, 700 and 800 all have the same pups and pre's so is it just a case of woods and finishes that drives the prices up? Quote
Pinball Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I'm no expert but know that some models are bolt-on and some neck-through construction. In my experience the neck-throughs are a little heavier. Both are nice but I prefer the bolt-ons as I can't hear any real difference. Also some differences is woods etc. Some of these lines have been going some time so there is some variation between them-there are a few old Japanese 800's around without Bartolini's for example. chrismuzz Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Woods and electronics I'd say. Some of the higher spec ones have nordstrand pickups in, which would probably make more of a difference than the woods used Quote
bagsieblue Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Yes, nice and light and slim necks. UK Range here: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eb_sub_series15.php?series_id=51&area_id=3&year=2015&cat_id=2 Slight differences in Woods - pick of the bunch in terms of value for money for me is the SR500. Admittedly some of the higher spec ones are very pretty indeed. I've got an SR500 that you are welcome to try. Quote
Martin E Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 By coincidence I bought a nice 2004 vintage SR900 yesterday. It has a through neck and yes they seem a bit heavier than the bolt ons but mine still only weighs 8.5 lbs. I tried several of the current versions in the shop which felt much lighter than this.
