toneknob Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015
I got the Bruford book a couple of years ago - now that is a yawnfest! Back on topic, those tickets are expensive. Get yourself the Neal and Jack and Me dvd - a superb couple of '83 shows with the Fripp/Belew/Bruford/Levin line-up.
Agree about the book - a very dry read, and not in the good way. I don't think I've seen a bad Crim DVD. Is the one you mention the one with Larks' Tongues 3? That's hot. Quote
toneknob Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Incidentally, I once saw Bruford's Earthworks at the Pizza Express Jazz Club. I said hi afterwards, and mentioned I'd been listening to (live recording) Absent Lovers on my way to the venue. "Ah yes" he said, "Montreal. The band split up the day after, if I remember correctly". Oops. Quote

lonestar Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I actually still enjoyed it too despite the moaning. I can recommend Tony Visconti' s book too if you like music biogs Quote

I did find it a bit repetitive though... every other chapter seemed to include a moan about having to "meet and greet" to a degree beyond that of the good old days.... Quote

It's certainly a damn sight more interesting than the usual "look how much drink/drugs/pussy I get" type of book you tend to get from musicians. One of the most tedious, unfunny things I've ever read was Guy Pratt's book, but lots of people seem to love that on here.... Edited February 4, 2015 by RhysP Quote
spectoremg Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 It's the one with Larks 2. More importantly it's the one with Tony Levin - one hand fretting his Stingray and the other playing a keyboard bass line. And the one with him playing two independent parts on his stick. Awesome! Quote
leschirons Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015
That's no way to talk about Robert Fripp.
I heard he's getting his Mrs in to do the "Ride Sally ride" bits in the big finish song Quote

If you're a Levin fan, check out the "Deja Vrooom" DVD as well, it's from the mid-90s "double trio" line-up. Quote

toneknob Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 That's fantastic. (and I've still got it saved on my Sky box from when it was first broadcast) Back on track: if you've not heard the live recording from last years King Crimson tour, "Live At The Orpheum" then give it a go. I'm about half way through, and it's amazing - man of the match goes to Mel Collins. Quote

ras52 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Booked for Hackney (Dress Circle)! Pricey, but probably once in a lifetime... Quote
toneknob Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Nice one. The two Aylesbury Friars Club gigs went on sale today (ie no presales Wednesday and yesterday), for the opening nights of the tour. Really good seats available. Bugger to get to. Quote
Bassassin Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Got front row for Edinburgh - I'm quite pleased about that! Jon. Quote
ras52 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Decided to go back and get tix for both London dates. Grr, could've saved £2.20 in postage if I'd done them in one transaction! Quote
toneknob Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 I only went for the one London date. But I did get Brighton and Edinburgh as well... Quote

Steve Woodcock Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I got to see KC back on the ConstruKction tour so haven't jumped on a ticket yet due to the price. Quote
