What is the best Outboard Bass Preamp?

So how much are we looking at cost wise for an Aguilar Tone Hammer? anybody got ideas on the price ranges second hand? although i doubt many people sell them...i have an aguilar OBP-1 in my Modulus, great preamp!

This one has just gone for £115 which is a great price. Generally I think you can expect to pay a bit more than that secondhand.

Not necessarily... Certainly you don't want one that colours it not to you taste but the whole point of the outboard is that you affecting the signal in some way, if only to clean it up, EQ it and boost it.

So the MXR, Sadowsky, Aguila, Bassbone are good candidates but I'd encourage you to consider those that add some dirt in your sound too, particularly if you like that vintage rock vibe (Geddy, Chris S, John Wetton). So consider also the Sans Amp range, EBS valve drive and connoisseurs' choice for bass distortion, the Dark Glass B7K.

If you want something classy that will add colour without overpowering your core bass tone then the Lehle Boost pedals are really nice.

Really, really well made and have a very high quality sound.

Tonehammer pedal? I've not used one, so can't reccomend it, but I do have the amp, which I very much like the powerful EQ on. But, might be worth a look?
