inthedoghouse Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) As soon as I heard this Gary Moore track I though of Jimi's 'Manic Depression' https://www.youtube....h?v=E8joLFYT6eM Cozy Powell's 'Dance with the Devil" is the main riff from Jimi's 'Third Stone from the Sun' Edited February 8, 2015 by inthedoghouse Quote

So, fair play to them. Quote
leschirons Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Chord progression wise, Hotel California and We used to know (Jethro Tull, some years before) However, Sam Smith would really be the man to chat to at the moment Quote
stuckinthepod Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) Check the intro guitar riff on Wishbone Ash Jailbait 1971 and Alice Cooper Schools Out 1972. Edited February 9, 2015 by stuckinthepod Quote

Happy Jack Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 The one that usually gets a mention (quite reasonably IMHO) is this: http://youtu.be/Sb5aq5HcS1A http://youtu.be/L5pHM-o2_Dk Quote
Hmmmm ... a lot of these are more-or-less straight covers. Even they went uncredited on the original albums (I haven't checked whether that was the case) I'm not sure that counts as "Songs that sound like other songs". They are, after all, the same song. In fact, one could almost argue that The Song Remains The Same. Quote

spongebob Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I've always thought that Raconteurs track also resembled 'Is She Really Going Out With Him?' by Joe Jackson as well! One of the 'steals' I've always cheekily admired - The Fall, and 'Barmy' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwCZu9O-H0M ....and the horn riff from The Monkees 'Valleri' from about 0.53 onwards - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJw0qpqIONQ Quote

I caught them live in Manchester a few years ago, and they put on a great show. It's a bit formulaic, but then how many band have a 'sound' that just gets repeated? Unless youve seen The Pet Shop Boys live you haven't experienced tedium : their set was basically West End Girls, and the others - the 2 songs they have. Quote
taunton-hobbit Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Many, many years ago a band called The New Breed had a pirate radio 'hit' with 'Friends & Lovers Forever'. Musically it was a full lift of 'Hang on Sloopy' by the McCoys................... Quote
