EBS HD350 info required please

I have been offered an EBS HD350 amp as a straight trade against my Blacktop Jazz that I have up for sale at the moment.

The amp is new and boxed old stock. I was having a tentative think about one of these a while back so its a possible goer but I wanted to get some opinions before I commit.

I currently use a Gallien MB Fusion 500 or Benz Shuttle 9.2 into a pair of Barefaced Big Baby 2 cabs and play in a pretty noisy rock covers band. Both amps are easily enough volume for any gig I currently play.

The EBS delivers 350 watts into 2 ohms - will I have a headroom problem with it?

How would you describe its family sound? I don't like Ashdown whumpy type sounds and prefer clean, thick and zingy with some chest thump.

Is it worth about £400 if I decide to move it on?

Thanks for any opinions

EBS HD350 is my fave amp of all time. Characteristics are typically super clean with the ability to deliver super highs in addition to bass. EQ is very versatile so you can make it a mud monster too. It's still packs a punch (it seems very efficient) at 4 ohms. With one of the larger EBS cabs - they are 4ohms (like a 410 or a 212 for example) they are perfectly loud to gig no problems. Don't be put off by the relative modest wattage. They deliver the beans very efficiently.

HD350s typically go between 350 and 450 used.

About a year ago, I went through an amp-buying phase, and at one time had five heads to compare! The HD350 and the Shuttle 9.2 were very similar to each other in that they are both very clean, flexible and high quality.

Personally, I found the Shuttle to be a bit more intuitive in that you could predict what each turn of the knob will do, so it's easy to quickly dial
In a tone. The HD350 took a bit more fiddling to get where I wanted, but I suppose it wouldn't take long to get familiar with its workings with some effort.

In terms of tone, like I said, very similar. With either amp you can get virtually any clean tone you'll ever need. If I had to choose, I'd probably go for the HD350 for that extra solidity in the low end.

Volume? I found the 9.2 to be louder than I'd ever need. and the HD350 to be just loud enough.

Another handy bonus for the HD350 is the Notch control, good for eliminating boom in a room if that's ever an issue.

If I had to choose, is go for the HD350 again, but there's not much in it

I wouldn't worry an awful lot about the power, I've not had mine long, and like you was a little concerned about power as I was going to be using it into an 8ohm 1x15 (first generation Barefaced Compact), so on paper that's only 88.5 watts into just one driver, albiet quite a sensitive one.

However, not an issue, I did three gigs over Christmas with that set-up and I don't think I had the master above 11 o'clock in a four piece rock/pop covers/function band.

I've now swapped to a EBS Neo 2x12 and am looking forward to using it in anger for the first time

Thanks guys, I've backed out of it for the time being.
I really should just wait to sell my bass rather than swap it for something for someone else's convenience. If anyone wants a brand new 350, I know where to find one so drop me a line and I can hook you up (bro')
