timmyta
I currently play a gedo five string with high c 3/4 , but was interested in tuning in 5ths but was worried my tiny little hands wont strech on a 3/4 and was wondering if anyone knew of a company that made 1/2 size 5 stringers or how hard is it to add a fifth string to a four stringer! I found a Japanese bassist on youtube that tunes his five string bass in fifths who has a useful website for getting the strings etc, and I can personaly vouch that the Gedo I bought is amazing! any advice welcome even if its dont do it! Bilbo
I think Glen Moore (Oregon) tunes his bass in fifths (a four-string). It's essentially cello tuning, isn't it?

alyctes
When I were a lad, and my dad played double bass, you used to see fifth-string add-on kits on some players' four-strings. It's a long time ago, but I wonder if they might still be in production? I guess you'd need a new bridge and tailpiece as well as the added tuner on the side of the pegbox, so it's probably not DIY unless you're quite skilled.
