RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Was never a new romantic, but worked with a guy who was. I do miss the'80s . I even liked fade to grey. Shame . Inspirational to many at that time . Quote
Clarky Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Never really a fan but Visage was part of the backdrop to my musical youth (I bought the first Spandau Ballet single 'To cut a long story short' on release and flirted with New Romanticism). Makes me sad in an utterly selfish way, as I am of a similar age and he was there in the NME etc that I used to read avidly as a teen. I said it was a selfish viewpoint but thats how I feel Quote

SpaceChick Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I met him and his Mum a few times, as they lived in a small seaside town near me. He was wonderfully weird! RIP Steve, you'll never fade to grey in my mind. Quote
grahamd Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 55, way too early. Soundtrack to many a coming of age. RIP Quote
JTUK Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Never really knew much about him but gigged with a few people that did and they had numerous stories to tell...and most weren't that good, tbh. Don't wish that on anyone tho... Quote
Lozz196 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Great shame, although I was never really into the New Romantic scene, Visage were a part of my youth, their music being around when I was 15/16. 55 is just too darn early, it does make you think - the ones of us that are near that age a bit more probably. steantval Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Only 55 and gone. Ex Heroin addict I have just read, this must have had an affect on his general health. Edited February 13, 2015 by steantval Quote
molan Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I met him a few times at Billy's, pre-Blitz era, when I was friends with George O'Dowd and Peter Robinson (later to become 'Boy' and Marilyn). He wasn't that strange then and seemed a decent bloke. Always had great clothes though! A lot of the original clubbers from that era said he was bit 'fake' but I always assume they were just jealous that he achieved some fame and they just remained strangely dressed nightclubbers Quote
alyctes Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Sorry to see him go. (Never knew he was Welsh.) Quote
Roger2611 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 as others have said, part of the sound track to my life, RIP Steve, I will give Fade To Grey a spin on the turntable tonight Quote
madshadows Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Much too young, RIP Steve Strange. Quote
spectoremg Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Loved the 80's and he was part of it. Good enough to get in a Bowie vid too. RIP. Quote
