tom1946
Anyone tried these passive pickups? Any good? My new G&L sb2 is a bit quiet so fancy a change.
hamfist
I think they are really excellent. As good as anything out there. It all comes down to taste once you get to a certain level after all. The toneriders are full and punchy (for a J pickup anyway). The neck pickup in particular is not anaemic at all (which is a common criticism I have of many neck J pickups). They are my J pickup of choice.
gary mac
I wasn't aware that there were any quiet G&L's Both of mine are very loud, so much so that they have been christened the bra worriers by the girls in the band. Apparently I make their supporting wires vibrate and resonate in not too pleasing a fashion.
tom1946
hahahahaha what a problem to have never heard that before. this is a tribute and quite new so maybe it's that? G&L pickups were always loud on my L-2000's but on this I have to have it cranked up quite a bit to get it loud enough, the tone is fine though. Thanks Ham for your input I think I'll get a set and give it a go.
gary mac
Tom is everything else good with the tribute? I played Grangur's one a while back and that seemed like a very decent instrument.
geoham
I've never heard the Tonerider Jazz pickups, but the Precision version I have is excellent.
stubass
Ahhh, it would actually be a Jb2 that Sir Tom has, my old one. It is a bit quiet, significantly so compared to an sb2. Only thing to watch for is that both pickups are the same size on the Jb2, most aftermarket jazz pups are slightly different sizes as that's what the jazz bass takes. Hope everything else is fine with it
Grassie
I put a Tonerider bridge J on my P bass (which also has a Tonerider P pickup) they are excellent. 😊
