JTUK
I'm a learner and I have to start with easier material It's for an open mic night
ok... fair enough. It is a good exercise in training your ear for the intervals and changes though so maybe if there was a chord chart you could find and then follow that and a yourtube demo song..assuming the song is in the same key. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VekCiejJuDU I don't like the above type of 'charts' as it takes no account into the bar time but you could play the root notes and then add a walking pattern when you know the chords. You'll find when you educate your ear that songs like this are playable without any real work as you can hear the way the song will change and you can drop straight in on request...hence my busking comment. I think it is the goal to try and get to ..in time, or learn to read it. No one is going to have the tab for this but they may have dots, on a gig. It will get thrown as you in different keys, no doubt, at some point.
TimR
The thing to remember with this song is it builds. Don't play the same all the way through. Start with fifths, just two notes per bar and add something each verse until you're playing like a possessed bass player. Great fun.

lojo
There was a great video on here of someone playing the whole JS line on a bongo Whilst if your just starting out it's to advanced, but it's well worth a look if you can start to incorporate even half if one of the fills , anyone know of it? Beware if it's open mike , some prat might ask you to play it in E Edited February 16, 2015 by lojo
Chrismanbass
I can't stand the studio version. Having said that, Constantine does a pretty good job of that one, although I tend to avoid his play alongs as some of them are pretty wide of the mark. This is what you need to be aiming for.... KevB
Regular in our set, i play it much like the youtube clip in post #3 with a few improv fills at the end (I'm no J Scheff ), works fine. Keep it 'bouncy' and it'll be OK.
