Johnm93 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 So, at the tender age of 50, last night was my first ever actual gig. Despite our regular rehearsals, I messed up in the first bar of the first song. As we play originals, only the band noticed! Uphill all the way from there and we completed the planned set list - 8 songs in total. Still grinning to myself now... Quote
discreet Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Hooray! Sounds like you've got the taste already. Quote
Johnm93 Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Yes, it is good fun. Some one asked me if we had any CDs...! Quote

[/quote] Well that's the next stage, do some recording, design some t-shirts and get your merch stall sorted out! You're not going to make a living just from gig money! You have to diversify! Quote
Roger2611 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Messing up in the first bar of the first song at your first gig, perfect, you got the cock up out of the way nice and quick then probably relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the gig, welcome to the world of gigging Quote
Mudpup Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) As above, get the muff up out of the way early then relax and enjoy. It's great innit - I used to play about 4 gigs a year 20 years ago, retired for 15 years then got back into playing and now doing about 45/50 gigs a year and loving every one of them with no nerves whatsoever! tony_m Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Nice one! We're still just messing about at the local open mic each week (honing our craft, I think it's called... ), but are angling for a spot at a local festival some time during the Summer for my first "proper" gig. Quote

SpaceChick Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Brilliant. Can feel your excitement, can't beat performing live Quote

DaytonaRik Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Good man! There's nothing like playing in front of an audience - and the sound of applause is one you'll never tire of. Welcome to the world of the gigging musician! Quote
darren Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Great stuff! Top tip: whenever I make a mistake I shift the blame immediately by frowning at the drummer and shake my head in disgust. Quote
Bassnut62 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Mistakes are great! Apparently Miles Davis used to say "If I play a bum note, I play it again....everyone thinks I meant it. Then I play it a third time and everyone thinks I'm a goddam mutherf***in genius!" Quote
