stevemaiden
Anyone know anything about these?!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jazz-Bass-9V-Battery-active-pickups-w-Electric-Guitar-/161601993884?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a03abc9c If it's anything like Squire quality it could be good! What would the import charges be? Through body stringing, looks like Squire tuners - even a dodgy Fender decal & embossing on neckplate! 3below
On a closer look at neck picture - it appears to have a separate fretboard rather than the usual one piece maple neck / board. http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/ Total import duty & taxes due: £59.88 according to above, gives Total landed cost: £304.88 Edited February 15, 2015 by 3below
AndyTravis
£250 is a bit much for a 'what if' especially with the Sire stuff getting good reviews so far at £100 or so more.
stevemaiden
Actually £304.00 (thanks 3below) for a what if - hence question anyone has experienced them! Squires Vintage Modified V made in China are currently around £301.00 and are very good value (I like the black block inlays on these) If the build quality is as good, you also get through body stringing & preamp? AndyTravis
If you're handy with a drill and can find the appropriate bridge (fender usa standard + ferrules) you could do it yourself. There is an East MM Pickguard mounted preamp you can buy too. I think these copies are a headache waiting to happen; you won't get your money back on it if you decide to sell it...and risk it being a pigot of an instrument - and if the preamp is bobbins, you'll end up spending more to get it right. There is a nice squier V on the sale threads here, or there's the sire one? Dunno, with so many other better options second hand for £300-£400 I'd give it a swerve. stevemaiden
Hmm!, thinking that way myself now Andy - I already have a modded Squire & it's excellent - may aquire said bridge & ferrules & I do have a drill!
