wotnwhy
i need a mixing desk with 2 jack/XLR inputs and a phono/jack line in. 3 eq preferable, but unlikely. thin and small so it can comfortably fit in a gig bag pocket. at the moment i'm looking at a mackie http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~M...LZ3~ID~8374.asp but i've heard good things about soundcraft and others, and was wondering if any tech heads with experience on this subject could help make sure my choice is the best one. sound quality will be the single most important aspect of this buy. thanks for any help
MananaMan
How much are you looking to spend? The Yamaha MG series mixers are great, small and affordable. Lovely pre-amps too (for the money). I think they do either an 8 or 10 channel mixer - couple of mic ins, and a load of stereo inputs. The small uns also have a handy mic stand mount if you're mixing live, which may be useful... Just checked out the new line - built in compressors and multi-fx too! bloomin magic!
whynot
I would normally avoid Behringer gear but I can recommend their Mackie clones... excellent mini mixers. They do a similar version to the one in your picture. Bought mine several years back for in-ear monitoring and still going strong for other purposes. wotnwhy
thanks for the replies MananaMan, i'll spend as much as is necesarry to get the right desk. the yamahas look good, but waay to big for my needs i'm afraid whynot, i'd avoid Behringer aswell. and i think in this case i'll continue to, i want the absolute best in every respect but again, thanks for the reply. i've been looking at the soundcraft stuff but can't find smaller than 8 channels, do they do a micro mixer? The Mackie is probably the one to go with but for stuff like this I wouldn't be against Behringer and Peavey's little things. It's only when you stack up hundreds of pots etc that the sound quality and reliability really becomes an issue. If you only have £40 then I wouldn't worry about using one, but if you have more to spend then the tiny Mackie is likely your best bet IMO. budget bassist
tapco do some nice little mixers for about £60, and i think they're made by mackie or something? EDIT: here it is, mackie designed mic pre-amps apparently, which everyone seems to go about with mackie mixers. Looks pretty funky too. I would be surprised if a lot of these small mixers came out of the same factory. how about this one. Even got FX built in to it.
