stingrayPete1977 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I'd still like a Big Al 5 SSS, probably in white with a maple board, they just dont appear used in any colour Quote
Graham Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) Just came across this on the EGC Facebook page Love the shape and material, would go for a more subdued colour though Edited February 25, 2015 by Graham Quote

dadofsix Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Geez Louise! Guys, where in blue blazes do you find these basses?? Some of them are so outlandish I'm almost feeling pangs of GAS! Well, to be honest, it may be the chili I had for lunch, but STILL, those are some great basses! Quote
spectoremg Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Kinda liking this bass. How does plexi work out as a guitar material? I know a lot of drummers hated the plexi drum kits (except for Bonzo - gratuitous opportunity to show his lovely Amber Vistalite) Quote

[/quote] Depends how much abuse your back can take. I built this: [sharedmedia=core:attachments:71956] ...and it's heavy enough to have its own gravity & weather systems. Seriously, it's about 13.5 lbs, a proper boat anchor. I wouldn't say the body material affects the sound, it sounds pretty much like any other Precision with a DiMarzio Model P. Jon. Quote

What I didn't like was the angled neck pickup. Far too uncomfortable to use as a thumb anchor and IMO the tonal advantages of moving the pole-pieces a few mm in relation to the string length are dubious to say the least. Unfortunately because most acrylic and plexi instruments are low-budget, the finish especially on the see-through parts is less than optimal. Quote
spectoremg Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I'm probably gonna get the dillweed of the week award here but I'd have thought a denser/heavier material like plexi would have been a good thing? Also that angled pickup thing has always puzzled me too. But then we are very 'butterfly flapping it's wings in China' about our gear Quote

Weighs less than a standard bass. Optimum balance, since tuners are mounted on body rather than headstock. [*]Stainless steel frets. [*]Flexible pivot joints at the nut and bridge absorb all warping forces, so the neck stays straight for the lowest possible action. [*]Fits a standard bass gig bag. [*]Brushed aluminum subtly reflects the colors of stage lights -- ideal for live performances and videos. [*]Even response at all playing positions from fret 1 to 24 on the two-octave neck. Dead spots common to conventional necks are a thing of the past. [*]Produces incredible attack and overtones impossible to achieve with a wood-body bass, because wood absorbs sound. Think of the advantages of a piano with a metal frame over a harpsichord with a wood frame, and you can imagine the advantages of the F4b bass for modern playing styles.
