chaypup
Next month one of my bands is doing a Stevie Wonder special - what songs should we choose to play and why ? It's a lively venue so uptempo is preferred - thanks! Edit: Not Superstition - everyone else plays that! JTUK
Even Stevie Wonder can't drop that from his set.... the problem with it is people play it with no groove or purpose beyond the riff... I'd ban the gtr from the riff... but then you'd need a funk gtr player.
chaypup
Good point, I did consider doing it more like the Quincy Jones version but I have a bit of a thing against that song after hearing so many poor versions.
paul_5
I wish. SUCH a good groove! If that doesn't fill the floor then you're in a room full of people who are dead inside. You should probably run away as soon as you can. And Sir Duke if you all fancy a bit of a workout. paul_5
To be honest, I'd be happy to hear a band get through anything from Songs In The Key Of Life - classics each and every one.
paul_5
Also there's For Once In My Life, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Master Blaster, Higher Ground... You're spoiled for choice really with an artist like Stevie.
Marvin
You must play Ebony and Ivory and I Just Called To Say. The audience will never forgive you if you don't.

skej21
Can't believe nobody has mentioned 'Isn't She Lovely' yet!! You could pick a full set of Stevie B side songs that nobody would recognise and it'd still be a killing set! Just pick the ones that'll get people up dancing :-) Edited February 22, 2015 by skej21
BassBunny
Surprised no one has mentioned "Uptight". Worth it just to get the audience involved.
crez5150
Lots to go at... my fave Stevie song is still 'I wish' even though most bands muder it. We've just added 'As if you read my mind' to our set.... http://youtu.be/SyOLZ3YMd8g

molan
Signed Sealed Delivered works really well straight into I Was Made To Love Her. Check out the live version of I Wish, Stevie plays wih the rhythm and timing a little and it's great fun to play!
chaypup
Oh wow, some amazing suggestions here and even a couple I've never heard! Better get listening. Can't wait to see it. You guys must be very good. I don't know any bands at the local level that have the ability to pull off those songs. Matter of fact I watched a Stevie tribute on TV last week and found most of the performances and versions of Stevie's work very weak. And they were all major stars. JamesBass
Can't believe For Once In My Life hasn't had more suggestions!? For me it's Stevie's best song and probably Jamerson's best bass line IMOOC. But seriously you can't drop superstition, it's a killer track! Especially if he drop the guitar from the riff and have a keys player who has an octave wheel! I'm actually dead interested to here this gig so when it's all sorted message me and I'll come along! I LOVE Stevie and his music!
