Dad3353
[sharedmedia=core:attachments:184565] Good evening, all... Here is my own, personal, view of the compositions presented in the monthly BC Composition Challenge, in randomly chosen order. I hope that at least some of you may be inspired to give the pieces a listen, and perhaps vote for your favourite. A cymbal splash, and swelling opulent strings add their contribution, followed by yet another layer of detail and complexity. The train is now chugging along nicely at a decent crack; time for a 'satellite tone' lead melody riff to advance. The various paces complement each other, each with its own notion of time, a slow relentless beat from the drums, a more forceful rhythm from the bass, a somewhat exhuberant bleeping from the lead line. All is now in place, we can leave as we came in, over a slowly-fading outro. Calm returns (the piece is mixed at a rather high volume level...). An excellent choice of sounds to accurately represent the train in the photo, building up multiple layers to form a coherent mental image of the dynamic involved. I had to reduce the volume somewhat, as the final level was a bit much, even for my deaf ears, but it's a tiny detail, no great shakes. The piece plays through with nice timing of each element's pennyworth combining to progressively complete the overall effect. The work is quite short, there is no wasted space or padding; it efficiently achieves its objective. Mission accomplished; quite some thought has gone into its construction, despite the title. The previous review was... Play of the Day : ‘I Think I Can …’, from Dad3353... The next will feature ‘Journey’, from Bleat... Until then... Have a nice day Douglas
