Bassassin
Wonder how come Ibanez/Hoshino are happy re-releasing a blinged-up C&W nightmare Jazz copy, but not its guitarry counterpart, the Custom Agent? But then, I suppose they've had run-ins with Gibson before... Jon
Beer of the Bass
Wonder how come Ibanez/Hoshino are happy re-releasing a blinged-up C&W nightmare Jazz copy, but not its guitarry counterpart, the Custom Agent?
I'm going to guess some of the demand for the Black Eagle bass is from Nirvana fans, and the guitar doesn't have any high-profile users to fuel demand? It's a pity in a way, as I think that styling works better on the guitar than on the bass. It's quite Gibson mandolin-ish.
1970
I wouldn't put it down to nirvana fans, probably more like lawsuit-era-MIJ fans, such as myself...
lowregisterhead
After reading the above article on the reissue, I was moved to give Headstock (Ibanez distributers) a call to see if any were going to land on these shores, and they told me there's an unspecified number allocated for the UK, coming in June/July, the nearest stockist to me being GAK in Brighton. Suffice to say I was on the phone to them a bit sharpish, and have now placed my order! I doubt if they'll be as good as the original, or match my unreasonable expectations, starting as they did as a 17-year-old in the late 70's, with my nose pressed up against the window of my local music shop, mouth agape, drooling... Everyone form an orderly queue, now... apart from 1970, he's sorted...

Shockwave
Hmmm... interesting. 33 1/2 inch scale if it's true to the original. Does the lower horn get in the way at the dusty end I wonder? Would be interesting for Stoner Rock!
mazdah
I'd seriously consider selling my SVP-PRO to get this one. And I've never seriously considered selling my preamp. And I'm not a fan of nirvana.
lowregisterhead
The (Black) Eagle has landed! Arrived from GAK yesterday and initial impressions are very good. Plays really well, although may need a tweak to get rid of a little fret buzz on the G up the dusty end. Not that I get up there often. Finish and hardware 9/10, only loses a point for a couple of blemishes in the paintwork in the slot cutout in the headstock. Clear, articulate tones, a little barkier than a standard Jazz, but nicely full-bodied. An extraordinary amount of very stylish bass for only £449. In fact, Thomann are currently doing it for £387.52 with free shipping... http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_2609b_black_eagle_bass.htm
kodiakblair
I'm glad to see your wait is over, must say it looks great. Am I right in thinking that it's cheaper today than in the late 70s,allowing for inflation.

Bassassin
It may be a ludicrous C&W nightmare from the mid-70s - but I am curiously & worryingly tempted - particularly with Thomann knocking it out for $380. Given what Ibby reissues are typically sold at, that's about half what I'd expected. Anyone know any details, like where it's made (doubt it's MIJ at that price) or if it's a ltd. edition? J. 1970
I have an original and even I'm tempted at that price! Would be keen to know if the reissues have the same grind/darkness that the originals have. Listen to the intro to Blew for an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J37mp0JJCE
