Wayward-Wanderer
Yep the 1400£ one. I was going to review the head today jsut for kicks. This one was jsut taken out the box and put with the cab. I turned it on, setup the Eq and plugged. Played one note and BAM!, tubes blew and and the whole thing when down. We got another out, With the same result. The shop had 3 in stock, obvioudly they wouldn't let me blow up the other one. I found this quite funny for something thats more than a grand. Obviously when i do the review, I will mark it down heavily in the build quailty and duriablity section. But its a Laney, What should I expect huh? Any similar expriences with Laney at all? Chopthebass
I heard one at the Gallery played thru Laneys 8 x 10 and I have to say it sounded very average. It just didn't do it for me. But at least it turned on without blowing anything!
Protium
Do they actually plan on selling any at that price?
Alastair
My old laney combo was very nice. But it was an SS.

Alastair
Mine was the 120W-ish RB4. Did a good job, I got all the tones I wanted from it.
bennifer
I would laugh quite hard if I found out the shop was using dodgy cables, or plugging things in at the wrong impedance. Can't imagine why a head would just randomly blow unless it got damaged in transit or something :s
Geddys nose
I've had VC's + LC's guitar combo's before and they have been really impressive and reliable, I hope they were not turning the heads on with no load there
noisedude
My RB9 hasn't let me down...... admittedly I don't gig heavily but it rehearses most weeks and it's been perfect. Got a VC15 guitar amp that's fine too. My guess is this situation had some reason to make it an anomaly.
tomas_almeida
For that price costumers must be expecting something high end, not like the cheap Laneys, so that comparision when you say, "But it's a Laney" is not right. But tubes blowing on two models just by turning on, that's awful.
warwickhunt
I had Laney gear years ago (150 & 300watt heads that 'mimicked' Trace gear) and they were ultra reliable. I'd like to think that the shop may well have a problem with their speaker leads rather than both amps be faulty!
thedontcarebear
Mill Hill practice studios in London always used to have Laneys in their rooms, always were reliable, dunno if they still do though.
noisedude
I can tell you all with a degree of certainty that Laney didn't R&D and release a £1.4k head that, on average, blows up the first time it's switched on. There are circumstances missing from the story here, as embarrassing as it will have been for the shop and annoying for a potential customer (well, maybe not really 'potential'). NeonMig
Sounds a bit dodgy, I've yet to see an amp blow up just by being turned on that wasn't abused in some way.
